Show Governor Irwln of Arizona Will Resign I WASHINGTON AprU 19 Governor John N Irwin of Arizona has decided to resign fho governorship of the territory and return re-turn to Keokuk to take charge of an extensive exten-sive private business in which he is interested inter-ested with his father He had a brief experience ex-perience as a territorial governor several years ago having been appointed governor of Idaho by President Arthur He had governed Idaho only three months when be sent his resignation to Washington and leaving the territorial government in charge of the secretary of state went back to Iowa Nine months afterwards tfe received re-ceived from the secretary of the treasury a check for 1500 in payment of his salary as governor his resignation not having been accepted Irwin returned the check to the treasury department with the information that he had not performed the duties of the office and did not consider himself entitled to the salary He was considerably annoyed an-noyed when ho learned some time afterward after-ward under a decision of Comptroller Lawrence the money had been placed to the credit of the conscience fund instead of the general < fund of the treasury Governor Irwin is now in Washington for the purpose of so curing the passage of an act to authorize the territory of Arizona to fund its debt |
