Show BU lNE S AND MlNlNG Some Heavy Sales Made of University SOIe Uni-versity Lands Ii i I THE JOINT BUILDING BUIDING CON IQE Al E BUSINESS IS DISPOSED DIS-POSED OF BY THE COMMITTEE roapects Being Developed at TicJc villc fleeting of the Bureau of Manufactures This Mornins The MiilTviuter Silver Takes Another Tumble Clearings and Transfers I I Chairman Seegmiller Qf the board of I commissioners to locate university I lands and Secretary Pierce of the board of regents of the University of Utah returned yesterday morning from Logan where they went for the purpose qf selling the remaining un sold university and In Cache county I The public sale took place at the front j I door of the courthouse of the county of Cache commencing at 10 oclock Thursday morning Previous to the public sale 1000 acres were sold at I private sale to parties who had previously I vi > sly made application for the land I but had not made the necessary payments pay-ments At the public sale 720 acres were sold the bids in several cases going over the appraised valuation placed upon the land by the commis sioners The purchase price of all land sold was 704370 which amount will be covered into the university fund There will remain unsold in wi CacHe county 600 ares of which the commission will have little difficulty in disposing there now being quite a demand for lands in the northern part of the territory Immediately upon returning the commission sold 120 acres in Sevier county receiving therefor 4S520 ani eceived application for the purchase of 200 acres more in the same county This afternoon Mr Seegmiller will leave for Richfield where on Tuesday morning the sale of unsold lands in Sevier county will take place I is very probable that Mr Pierce will appoint ap-point a representative in Richfield and not go south himself on account of pressing business engagements i THE JOINT BUILDIXG A Meeting of the Joint Committee held Ycscrilny The joint city and county building committee held a regular session yesterday yes-terday afternoon with Mayor Baskin j In the chair and Messrs Cahoon Morris j Mor-ris Watson Cheesemtn Lynn and i Bamberger present afull committee Pay rolls amounting to 426339 and a number of claims were audited and allowed Charles H Gurley a former em nloyee of the committee represented by a communication that he was seriously ser-iously injured on November 23 1893 while unloading plate glass in the building He asked that his wages be allowed to run from the date of his injury until he is able to return to work The petition was referred to Selectman Bamberger for investigation investiga-tion J i The claim of Louis Shaft against the committee for damage alleged to have I been sustained by Jlimv through being i Injured while working on the joint i Building was settled by the committee i commit-tee paying the expenses of medical attendance at-tendance I Mr Watson was added to the committee com-mittee on employment and the committee com-mittee on slate roafltig I I Selectman Bamberger tendered his resignation as a member of the employment em-ployment commitee at the last meet I I ng but no action was taken being deferred until yesterday afternoon The matter was not called up however I I how-ever except incidentally when Mr II I Watson was added to the committee i I This was practically a vote of confidence I I con-fidence and it is very probable that nothing further will be done regardIng regard-ing Bambergers resignation The gentleman gen-tleman has the full confidence of the committee and his work is heartily endorsed I I en-dorsed Mayor Baskin and Selectman Ca I I hoon the committee on art glass reported re-ported adversely ort < the proposition of putting the glass lpthe building on account of the financial condition of both the city and county The committee I I com-mittee strongly favored the further ornamentation of the building but both members jfelt that the extra expense could not be allowed at present A general discussion followed and the matter was finally referred back to the committee with instructions to obtain j designs At the request of Mayor Bas 1 kin Mr Watson was substituted for himself on the committee The feelIng feel-Ing of the general committee is in favor fa-vor of the glass I |
