Show publicansCALIFORNIA CALIFORNIA San Francisco Nov GAt the close of the polls tonight no reliable estimate of the results in San Frincisco can be made For mayor it is generally believed be-lieved that Adolph Sutro Peoples party candidate has been elected though C C ODonnell the United Labor and antiChinese candidate and L R Ellert the Republican and citizens citi-zens nonpartisan nominee are close seconds The citizens nonpartisan candidates for nearly all the other important im-portant city officers are believed to have been elected The result in the city cannot be known tomorrow however how-ever as the state and legislative tickets are to be counted first Though a very heavy vote was polled the election elec-tion was the quietest in the history of ton wa the city About a score of arrests were made for illegal voting but there was no other trouble Throughout California the polls were kept open until 5 oclock Any estimates mates which might be made at the close of the voting would be simply conjecture for absolutely nothing is known However the general impression impres-sion is that Estee for governor and nearly all of the Republican candidates for state offices have been elected An unusually large vote has been polled the weather having been pleasant throughout the state No serious disturbances dis-turbances are reported At Vallejo where several hundred i I United States sailors and marines from Mare island navy yard registered notwithstanding not-withstanding decision of courts declaring declar-ing the registration illegal trouble was feared A big force of deputy sheriffs was sworn in and the first two sailors who appeared and swore in their votes I were arrested for felony No further attempts were made by the sailors and marines to vote From other points a few arrests are reported At 7 p m D M Burns secretary of the state Republican state central committee com-mittee made the following statement to the Associated Press We claim the state by at least 20 000 majority Estee is elected beyond all doubt as well a the rest of the i I i state ticket Estee will carry San Francisco by 5000 and the Republicans I will elect most of the municipal ticket I I I The legislature will be Republican by a comfortable margin At 1130 p m from incomplete returns I from various sections of the state the indications are that the contest for governor gov-ernor is v r close with the chances slightly in favor of Budd Dem The Republicans have undoubtedly elected five congressmen and possibly six Maguire congesmeq probably elected I elect-ed from the Fourth district With the exception of governor the Republicans II seem to be leading on the state ticket and will probably have a majority in I the legislature Estee is not getting as large a vote in the country districts as was expected while Budd is doing well in San Fransisco and estimates of his plurality 10000 in this city run as high a |
