Show HARRISONS TRAVELS The President Visits the Coal Regions AN ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION Is Accorded Him Wherever He Goes The Stations tions Arc Crowded and Cheer After Cheer Is Given CRESSOX SPRINGS Pa September 20 The President devoted today to a visit to the lumber and bituminous coal region of Pennsylvania I included a carriage inspection and a reception by the President Presi-dent in each of the places visited The special train bearing the presidential party reached Altoona at 1030 oclock and made a short stop Tho next stop was at I Tyrone The station was thronged with people mostly laboring men bearins flags and they cheered the President almost continuously until the train moved off The President came out on the rear platform and shook hands with several hundred per sons Tho party received a most enthusi stic greeting all along the line especially at Oscola and Housedale Business was suspended at both places ane all the inhab tants turcl out and gave the President a rousing reception At Holydale the President was received by a committee of twelve citizens and provided vided with a carriage A crowd numbering nearly ten thousand persons lined both sides of the route taken and greeted the distinguished visitors with frequent cheers Kincaid post G A R acted as guard of honor The procession finally stopped under un-der an evergreen arch near the station staton when the President and General Hastings were escorted to the grandstand Brief speeches were made by W H Dell and W J Sbaw and the President responded ponded He tnanked the people for the hearty welcome which he said he remarked re-marked not as a personal but as evidence of loyalty and fidelity to tie government of which we are all citizens In conclusion he said he wisned to declare he has no other purpose as President of the United States han to so administer the office as to promote pro-mote the general good of all the people His remarks were loudly applauded The party > then returned to tho cars and the President stood on the platform and shook hands with nearly a thousand persons before be-fore the train started The party arrived at Phillipsburg about 3 oclock and were welcomed at the station by nearly all the inhabitants of the town The party was driven through the principal princi-pal streets in carriages and the President was greeted with enthusiasm all along theme the-me The party on its arrival at Clearfield was followed by the cheering of several thousand people who had gathered at the station The President was driven through the principal streets and on his return to the train held the usual reception The principal event of the trip however was at Curwinsville where the presidential presiden-tial party remained nearly two hours The President and party was driven to I the residence of A E Patton where a public reception was hold followed by an elegant luncheon The President was given a cordial greeting and shook hands with nearly fifteen hundred people The much President enjoyed the entire trip very |
