Show The Deep Creek Road I I It seems as if the long deserved railroad i through the rich mineral belt of Nevada would at last be constructed The Central Pacific road passes far north of that part of the state which contains immense deposits de-posits of ore so that long railroads have been constructed south from the overland line in order to give an outlet Much of I the ore is shipped to Salt Lake city for smelting but the freight charges are so high that they prevent the development of perhaps the richest part of the Pacific const as far as mineral wealth Is concerned All that region from Salt Lake city west to the California state lino lying south of the Central Pacitic has been Buffering for years for lack of transportation facilities and numerous efforts have been made to secure the construction of a railroad which would enable ore to be carried to Salt Lake smeltera for a ressonable sum The general gen-eral opinion is that such a road would cause an immediate and wonderful development develop-ment of the mineral regions of western Utah and central and southern Nevada Suoh a road has already been surveyed running through the heart of the mineral belt and crossing the Central Pacific near Reno in its course to Beckwith Pass in this state through whloh it is possible to bring a line down to the Sacramento valley val-ley Nothing however has been done toward to-ward the actual building of such a line until un-til very recently when Colonel Murray of Sal Lake put forward a scheme for a road from Salt Lake west to Deep Creek Nevada Ne-vada Tbis road has every prospect of being be-ing built Colonel Murray reports that ho has accepted the franchises granted and has made several contracts and has recently re-cently gone east to push maters there All the cities and towns along the lino show great interest in the movement and their enterprising citizens are giving substantial sub-stantial aid They want a railroad and Bulletin are willing to help it along San Francisco |
