counted the men and boys in the Liberal procession veieraayas they passed two different points There were exactly 531 in line and the general effect the uniforms was the same as ot fireworks going off made its appearance yesterday but did not create much of a sensation sensa-tion It was a twelvepage edition eight pages Sarger than usual and contained a great many facts concerning the years progress most of which had to us a very familiar appearance Still it is a creditable issue and may in a measure meas-ure counteract some of the bad effects created by the Tribune during the year past THE holiday edition of THE SALT LAKE HER ALU is one of the finest things of the kind ever gotten up In the west The front cover is lithographed litho-graphed and represents a snow storm upon a dark ground but is relieved so as to exhibit clearly the tabernacle Board of Trade building and HERALD office Upon the right is a train of cars and in the foreground a cross The whole thing is gotten up of the size of THE DAILY HERALD The frontispiece is a splendid cat of Brigham Young The illus rations are of a high < type of art embracing p 10 te buildings mountain moun-tain scenery manufacturing establishments etc A page is devoted to Idahn giving sketches of its early history and present resources Boise Idaho Democrat AT 5 oclock yesterda afternoon Mr Read superintendent of the street railway company was solicited by the theatre manager to run an electric wire to the stage for the flower effect in the third act of Faust It was quite an Emdertalang especially as it was a holiday and cnost of the men were off duty but through Mr Beads courtesy and the energy and good nature of Mr R M Jones electrician and his assistants as-sistants the wires were strung and the lamps in placefully an hour before they were needed The effect was an electric one in more ways than one and so entirely new to Salt Lake that it will bear frequent repetition A similar effect trill be produced in Der Freischutz SOME time since the marriage of a certain cigar dealer to the daughter of a man well Scnown in business circles here was noted and the fact that the bridegroom was announced as intending to enter into business at once was favorably received But it seems that the kind of business he was intent upon was not strictly legitimate at least what he did do was not altogether alto-gether in accordance with the most approved methods for he recently took his departure accompanied by several thousand dollars of his fatherinlaws money and his wifes jewelry The father went in pursuit and word is now received re-ceived here that he captured the venturesome young man at Denver Let us hope so LIPMAN WALLERSTEIN Cos store on Main street was entered by a burglar early yesterday morning and he succeeded in getting about four dollars In change The sneak however got out of the store much more hurriedly than he en tore because the noise awoke Jake Oures and Max Lipman employees of the house and they rushed into the salesroom with guns Jake covered cov-ered the burglar at once with his gun and snapped twice at him but the cartridge failed to explode The burglar then rushed excitedly through the window breaking out one of the large panes in making the exit and as seen yesterday by signs of blood badly cutting him self on the glass The clerks followed him into the street and ran after him nearly a block in I their night clothes They fired three shots without effect as they were probably too much excited for good marksmanship Their pluck however is commendable and the scare given the vagabond may last for some time MAy strangers are with us these days among whom are a number of our country sfriend The hotels did their share yesterday Ao make the day pleasant for the
