Show The City in Brief H Peter Hansen went before Commissioner Commis-sioner Perrin Tuesday and swore out a warrant for the arrest of Rollin P Saxe J on the charge of embezzlement The warrant war-rant charges that Saze on July 1st fraudulently fraudu-lently appropriated to his own use the sum of 900 lawful money of the United States the property of Hansen Deputy Marshal McClellan served the warrant upon Saxe and made return thereof on December 31st The north and south street to be opened through Union square is not in the center of the square It is understood that the only object in Jsymg out the proposed str tin t-in that manner was to save the old barn If the plat of the square as laid off is finally accepted by the council the north and south street will probably never be opened through the block immediately north of it It took the jury only half an hour to arrive ar-rive at a verdict of not guilty in the case of Frank Greenwell tried on a charge of adultery Subscriptions will be brought tc a halt No damage was done but the rowd on the sidewalk scattered and got out of the way at a 209X gait Even the hacks have been placed on runners run-ners and their patrons are more numerous and better pleased than when they went splashing through the mud Yesterday was the last day for the reception recep-tion of bids for the purchase of Union square lots If the city sells to the chamber of commerce com-merce the corner of Union square for which they applied and which the council said they might have upon certain conditions condi-tions it is believed that at least iOO000 can be realized from the sale of the remaining remain-ing lots That sum with the money received re-ceived from the sale of bonds would be sufficient to give this city a splendid sewerage sewer-age system Several members of the Ogden brass band were out on the street yesterday afternoon making sweet music for the delectation de-lectation of the people They serenaded William Driver Son who invited the boys to walk in and take something to inspire in-spire them The boys accepted invite and smiled The honday number of the Commercial issued tuis morning is in all respects creditable cred-itable It is many friends in Utah He wishes to be remembered to all of them In the flush old days of the Comstock when Virginia city was the liveliest city in the world and everybody had plenty of money the cost of using a span of horses and a sleigh for an hour was 10 and an fa hour was the shortest time for which the r L livery men would hire out a rig This was at the rate of 51 for six minutes It was easier then to pay the 10 for an hours fun than it is to pay the G for two hours which is the charge in Ogden It was on Twentyfourth street hill last winter that a terrible accident occurred to boys who were coasting whereby one of them had his skull crushed and another one was seriously hurt The boys are still using that hill for coasting and unless they stop it some one will be hurt Up to 4 oclock pm yesterday the police had not made a single arrest Not a drunken man was seen on the street during the entire day This mornings Commercial contains a large cut of the new Reed hotel now in course of construction It looms up grandly The special train with the Juch opera company on board due to arrive in Ogden Tuesday afternoon did not reach hero until 1215 pm yesterday The train consisted con-sisted of three baggage cars and three Pullmans Pull-mans The company had a gay time while V here snowballing and shoveling snow They left for Salt Lake at 105 pm The Utah Northern train was reported at 645 last evening and the Rio Grande Western was two hours late sncwed pretty steadily all of yesterday yester-day afternoon and the temperature was just right to keep the surf ac3 in good condition con-dition for sleighing V Yesterday afternoon at 405 a special TCtrain came in from the east with the new Superintendent of theMontana division C P Ressequie and W L Ryder of the Wyoming division occupying superintendents superinten-dents cars 02 and 09 Mr Ressequie remained re-mained here over night and intends to go to his headquarters at Salt Lake City this morning ft D M is running in Colonel Torpeys place Some time during the afternoon the little lit-tle son of the late James Boyle met his death while coasting on the Twenty seventh Street hill Particulars are not obtainable tonight All that is known is that the boy was run over by a heavy bobsled bob-sled and so badly squeezed that he lived only about an hour afterward |
