Show The Union Pacifics Statement Union Pacific officials say their September Septem-ber statement merely reflects the improved conditions prevailing in the territory tributary tribu-tary to its system of railroads The movement move-ment of grain on the Pacific Coast doubtless doubt-less accounts in part for the improved earnings of tho lines in the extreme Northwest North-west The earnings of that part of the system lying east of the Rocky Mountains have not yet begun to feel the movement of the principal crop of that section of the country as the corn will not begin to move until about the first of December All advices from the line of the road are of the most promising character The operating expenses do not indicate all the economies that are now being practiced prac-ticed the outlays for betterments and improvements im-provements which in September 1890 amounted t 435034 having been but 20916 in September of the current year This of course is independent of the decrease de-crease in the expenses of operation The economics that are now being practiced have so far affected tho companys finances that the net remittances from Omaha during dur-ing the month following that for which the return is made were 1544000 while for October 1S90 the drafts on the treasurer at Boston exceeded the remittances from the road by 646000 being a tot increase of remittances of 2190000 for October of this year The property is being well maintained the equipment in particular having been during the last five months brought up to a very high standard the expenditures on this account having been in view of the excellent prospects for increased traffic largely in excess of what would otherwise have been necessary Recent advices indicate in-dicate that the number of bad order cars I represents now but 5 per cent of the freight equipment while at the beginning of the year it was 8 per cent |
