Show All I A LIAR SIR The Query Propounded by Councilman Coun-cilman Anderson ANOTHER VERY LIVELY RACKETa The Councils Report i Finally Adopted and Kletting Will Construct the Joint Public Building The city council held a special meeting last evening to consider the joint city and county building project Mayor Scott presided and there were present Council men Cohn James Lynn Anderson Heath Pembroke Karrick Hall and Spafford The county was represented by Selectmen Howe Cahoon and Miller while the architects archi-tects association was represented by Messrs Hale Spohr Carroll Costersian and others THE RESOLUTION Deputy Recorder Woodruff at the direction direc-tion t of the mayor read the following resolution which was adopted recently by tho joint committee recenty Resolved That it is the sense of this committee that the city and county proceed pro-ceed to erect the joint city and county building on the plans of C E Apponyi with such further changes as may be required re-quired under the superintendence of some suitable and competentarchitect HE DOESNT LIKE A1TONTI Councilman Anderson move that the reference to the plns of Apponyi be striken out Councilman Lynn Well we might just 05 that well reject the whole thing as reject thatCouncilman Councilman Anderson I think thats what ought to be done Councilman James J The gentleman has not given any reason for striking out the Apponyi plans ON 11IS EAR Councilman Anderson Well then I will say that Apponyis plans are not complete com-plete and are not whatwe want Then Mr Kletting will havo to alter the whole building as designed by Apponyi Such n building wonld buiding be an abortion an eyesore for all time to come There are local architects ar-chitects who will plan a building to go up on this foundation and I think that would bo much cheaper in the long run ANOTHER LITTLE SPAT Councilman Hall The report of the ac ton of tho joint committee does not bear my signature nor does it bear Mr Lynns signature I do not think it is a report of the committee all Councilman Anderson say it is the report re-port of the committee Councilman Hall Well I maintain tin it i isnt th1 HLOOD TIMMY DLOOD I Councilman Anderson warmlyDo you mean to say I am a liar 1 TVTilnt Inntt rnnm fn nTvTni Councilman FlailI understood that this meeting was called to consider the report of the committee on improvements made at the last meeting instead of the report which is no report at all Councilman Parsons think Mr Hall is right I understood that this meeting was called to discuss the committees recommendation recom-mendation that Mr KJetting be employed as architect Councilman Cohn took the same view He favored tho report of the committee Kletting recommending the employment of Mr THAT REPORT The following report of the committee on improvpments which was submitted on on Tuesday night was then read Your committee on improvements to whom you referred back the attached papers and reportsin regard to engaging an architect for city and county building c buidin with request that we confer with the county authorities to the propriety of having entire new plans prepared respect fully report that we have consulted with the committee representing the county in this matter and at a joint meeting held December 27 it was voted to recommend to the city council and county court First that they proceed to erect the joint city and county building on the plans furnished by CE Apponyi Second that R Klet tingbe employed as architect to superintend superin-tend the constructiqn of said building and to make such changes in the plans and specifications as may be required provided a contract can be made with Mr Kletting that will be satis sats factory to both parties After that action of the joint committee the plans for the building were placed in the hands of Mr Kletting for examination with the request tnat he inform your committee as soon as possible as to tho terms of a con tract under which ho would undertake to revise and perfect the plans and specifications and superintend tne construction of the build buid ing Ho has notified your committee that alter a careful examination of tne plans he Councilman Hall said 1 majority of the members of the county court were present and if invited could doubtless express their views as to the employment ofan architect lOWE IS ALL BIGHT Selectman Howe said he was on record as favoring the employment of Mr Klett ing So far as he had been able to discover he believed that Mr Kletting stood first in Klettng frst the mind of the committee as well as of the public BARren WANTS IT SETTLED By this time Judge Bartch had arrived and he said that in a matter of this kind he was in favor of allowing competition The architects of the city had asked for thirty days in which to present plans and offer changes to theApponyi plans He did not think it would delay matters any to keep the matter open for that length of time and therefore he would not oppose it However the plan had been delayed so long that he thought something definite defnie should be done at once The county was very much limited for room and tho city also needed room I the whole question queston could be settled at once he would be glad of it WANTS TO GO OUT Councilman Pembroke moved that the council take a recess nnd that the joint committee make a report GABOON ENDORSES THE COUNCIL Selectman Cahoon said he was in favor of endorsing the action of the council Mayor Scott said that whatever was done the plans would have to be revised under the direction of the joint committee WANTS HIS DOLLS AND DISHES At this point Councilman Anderson arose and said wish to tender my resigna tion as a member of tho committee on improvements im-provements I dont seem to bo able to agree with tho other members THE MAYOR GIVES Hill TAFFY Mayor ScottI dont think there is a member of the committee who is more conscientious con-scientious than Mr Anderson and I wish you would consent to remain for a time at least WINKS OUT Councilman Hall suggested that as a majority of the members of the county court had expressed themselves as being in i favor of the report just adopted here was do necessity for further action night so the council adjourned until Tuesday |
