Show The Steele Courtmartial CHICAGO March 20In the Steele court martial today counsel for the prisoner offered a statement made by Recruiting Sergeant Wendrith of this city to the effect that Wild had voluntarily talked to him Wendrith about the case saying the only reason he refused to obey Steele was that he had a grudge against him and wanted to get even Wild further told Wendrith that he had been in the army fifteen fif-teen years and never moro than five years in one troop Wild was asked what ho had to say to these statements He declined to answer saying he was not on trial Sergeant Windrith was recalled and reiterated re-iterated Members his statement of Lieutenant and identified Steeles Wild troop then testified to his kind demeanor as an I officer and Wilds had reputation While iu the Eighth cavalry he had been in prison many times for disobedience of orders and other offenses Lieutenant C Cowdor also offered evidence evi-dence of the same nature regarding Wild when he served under the name of Ward in the Fifteenth infantry |
