| Show TIE AU I I is gratifying t learn that the applications tons for space in the fair building are numerous and that they come from a wide area of Country It is gratifying because it indicates unusual and widespread interest inter-est in the forthcoming exhibition OUr annual fairs wero once great events Not only did they bring the people together but they brought them together in a noble rivalry which was productive of much good Every exhibition was followed by an improvement in the community Individuals Indi-viduals were inspired with an ambition to excel Our factories turned out better goods Our artisans did better work Our stockraisers took better care of their herds and gave greater attention to tho improvement improve-ment of their animals Our artists labored harder to please and worked with greater determination to surpass sur-pass Everybody looked forward I with pleasurable anticipation to the fairs and the realization was equal t the expectation ectation there being a marked advance in tho various departments of human industry with each successive exposition I When these usual displays were discon tinued the regret was general and the evil effects of the stoppage were apparent two or three years ago when a fair was held after a lapse of years The people had lost much ol the interest which once actuated them Tne ambition town prizes and popular favor had gently declined and there was a lack of popular enthusiasm which hsd marked the annual displays The exhibitions ex-hibitions given annually since however have had wonderful influence and today something of the old limo spirit is manifest in the community People aro again eager to attract public attention and win plaudits by exhibiting tho evidences of thoir enterprise enter-prise skill and training They are again taking natural human delight in efforts to excel and as a whole the community is once more taking pride in showing the progress pro-gress that is making in praiseworthy endeavors en-deavors I The indications are that the fair will be wi better generally than any ever before held and that it will better illustrate the remarkable re-markable advance that Utah has been making mak-ing in the development and utilization of her sources The various folds of manufacture manu-facture agriculture mining stockraising and so on will all be represented and we believe be-lieve as never before the display being a creditable exposition of the arts and industries indus-tries of the territory |
