Pickard treasurer we H Remington secretary Charles Crane general manager Manager crane was seen yesterday even lag by a HEUALD reporter and interrogated concerning the object and purposes of the company He said The time has not yet come when I can talk freely on the subject sub-ject and if I should tell what will be accomplished ac-complished by the company you woula not believe me It sounds aioro like Aladdin romance than an actual fact Do you intend to bore for natural gas No sir we have a process vhereby wean we-an manufacture gas cheaper than we can gas bore for it The present cost of gas I believe be-lieve is 3 per 1000 cubic feet ana we propose pro-pose > to start by furnishing it for 1 per 1CO You would probably not believe mo if t1 told you that I made gas by our new process at 25 cents per 1GQO feet Much less would you put credeuia in the asser tion that I have made it at much less than nehalf that expense I you can do this you will revolutionize revolution-ize the light and power method now em played We can do this and more which lam not etat liberty to explain The full problem prob-lem has been solved raud smelters and manufacturing establishments will be enabled to have a much more convenient neat at greatly reduced expense besides saving the large amount or money now paid to stopers and doing away with smoke and ashes In this discovery then you also settle the smoke problem Yes sir the air of cities which here tofore has been filled with smoke and soot vill now be as clear and free from these nuisances as any country atmosphere Has this wonderful gas ever been used in any of the eastern cities It has not yet been used in any city outside of the city in which it was discovered dis-covered where the inventor is now per ecting a plant The gentleman is the one who invented water gas and is a very ingenious in-genious lan and has ceen studying and experimenting on this idea for over thirty years having now perfected it Ten patents have already been issued and seven more are now pending I consider it the most wonderful discovery of the age W L Pickard and 1 Treweek were east when I was and saw my experiments with it How did you chance to hear of this man and his invention I was investigating another matter and accidently heard of this 1 started out to run it down and have traveled 10000 miles and spent nine weeks and a large amount of money in doing so but I am now thoroughly satisfied as to its practicability and have purchased the right to use the process in Utah Montana and Nevada Ii paying 50000 cash for it When and where do you propose to I establish the first plant and what will it i costf costI tI I expect to go east sometime early in January and will have a plant in running I order i February which will make 500000 cubic feet of crude gas every twentyfour I hours or 400000 cubic foot of fixed gas The plant is inexpensive and will not cost over j 12000 It has not yet been definitely decided where this plant will be located but it will either be established at the Ger mania smelter or in the city The first use to which it will be put is for fuel if it is located at the Germania it will be used for smelting ores and if in the city some of the largest boilers will be furnished with heat Ore can be roasted for seven cents per ton and 10J pounds of steam can be had on a boiler in less than an hour It may be that an exhibition plant will be put up A u < 1 IIeejus UJ UUULLU UJ UnClLUl 01 cue company will be held to settle this question before I start east What are the properties of this gas 1 It is much purer than other manufactured manufac-tured gas and while uSalt Lake gas furnishes fur-nishes 16candle power the new process gas under the same circumstances will furnish I 30candlo power and at a distance can scarcely be distinguished from electric light in fact it has the properties of natural natu-ral gas A number of analyses have been made among which were some by Prof Norton of the Boston school of technology which was very favorable The gas has an odor as other gas and can be made either rich or poor as desired Is any other city engaged in establishing establish-ing a plant at present V Denver is the only one How rapidly do you propose to develop this enterprise i I the first experiments prove entirely satisfactory we will establish fifty different differ-ent plan B in various parts of our territory among wuich will be several in the important impor-tant cities of Montana Within threo years we expect to lurnish heat and light for the entire city I What franchises and privileges will be asked of the city councHJ Wo will ask for no favors of the city at least not for some time We propose to I demonstrate the utility and necessity of our enterprise one and will not ask favors of any |
