Show The Western Railroad President CHICAGO Jan 3Alt the leading lines entering Chicago from the west will be represented rep-resented at the New York conference I next Thursday excepting the Chicago Alton and the Chicago St Paul Kansas City Even these roads can be relied upon to suscribe to the agreement if it is constructed con-structed upon a basis that will insure them a fair share of business This afternoon the presidents of the other lines continued the conference which has been going on all the week regarding the proposed agreement agree-ment It has developed that the presidents aro widely apart on some of the questions involved It seems the Atchison people lean too much to tho Gould idea of the ironclad combination combina-tion to please the Rock Island and St Paul and that the presidents have failed to agree on a number of important points What effect the present difficulty between tho Union Pacific and Rock Island and St Paul wi have on the new agreement continues con-tinues to be a matter of conjecture and the officers of the last named roads will not say whether or not it is likely to affect their actions All the western roads have adopted the reports of the committee on managers concerning con-cerning free transportation and the plan recommended is now in force It provides that annual or time passes shall not be issued is-sued to employes of foreign roads in train service station or traffic departments except upon the request of the proper officials of-ficials of such roads that annual halffare permits shall be good only in the state i which the holder resides that annual time or single trip passes shall not be issued to the Worlds fair commissioners to representatives repre-sentatives of street car or cable roads agents engaged in the sale of commodities t roads Grand Army people or any United States army officers except the commander of the department of the Missouri or his immediate staff |
