Show Openlne of Chicagos Opera Season I CHICAGO Nov 9None of the many I brilliant assemblages which have hertofore filled the Auditorium surpassed in magnifl cence that gathered tonight to witness the opening of the grand opera season It was to be the first appearance in America of several celebrated European artists and also the initial work of Theodore Thomas inucbtalkodof new Chicago orchestra The result was such an outpouring of fashionable fash-ionable people notwithstanding the blustering blus-tering night and drenching rain that the great house was filled In the company which was under the direction of Henry Abbey and Maurice Grau produced pro-duced Lohengrin in Italian and in a which left little room for manner ltte criticism criti-cism The famous tenor Jean de Reszke Madame Emma Eames Madame Ravoglia and Edourd do Reszke the remarkable baritone were received with much favor The chorus work was disappointing to I some extent but this defeat was neutral izpd by tho richness and historic fidelity of I costumes and beauty of the scenic effects |
