Show crry CREEK ROAD How ItCan le Made of Benefit I I to Salt Lake MORGAN COUNTY TR TRIBUTARY Immense Belts of limber in the Country Through Which a Road to Morgan County Would Pass I I Hon J R Porter one of the members of the last legislature was in Salt Lake a few days ago He says Morgan county is in a ory prosperous condition that the crops generally werenever better The gentle nan is an enthusiastic advocate of the opening of what is popularly known as the lorganSiilt Lake road via City Creek canon to Morgan city It would have been made a long time ago he said bad the Salt Lake people met us half way at the time it was mooted and when Morgan county was in a better condition to build her proportion than she is now Well suppose Salt Lake county can be induced to get a move on herself this fall do you think your people will join hands in ha movement so that the road may bo in good condition for travel in the early spring Ihardly think so he replied because as understand itthe greater portion of our county revenue is already appropriated That the road would be an incalculable benefit to both Salt Lake city and Morgan county there can not bo the slightest doubt Under present conditions to reach this city by team we are compelled to go away around by Weber canon and this consumes con-sumes a good portion of two days Whereas Where-as vith a road connecting the two counties coun-ties through City Creek canon we could reach Salt Lake in from five to six hours at the outside In other words the real under consideration would bring us within twentyfive miles of Salt Lake making Morgan city a suburb so to speak of the metropolis increasing the value of our property immensely and adding another r attraction to the many already enjoyed by itOutside Outside of the advantages of an into change of trade which would be beneficial alike to both counties what other inducements induce-ments are there for Salt Lake to take a hand in constructing the road Immense bodies of timber lie right along the country through which the road would naturally go To a great extent this timber has so far been inaccessible on account ac-count of the fact that there is no road from either this side or the other by which it could be reached There are some of our people who are inclined to guard this timber tim-ber with a jealous care and for that reason rea-son they might be found opposed to building build-ing the road but I believe the majority of the Morgan county people look at the matter mat-ter in the same lightas I do What in your opinion would be the cost of the construction of the proposed roadOur Our portion would probably cost in the neighborhood of two thousand dollars while the work on this side could doubtless be done for 3000 You think then that a good road could be built from Salt Lake to Morgan city for 55000 55000Yes Yes a good substantial road too one that would not have to be renewed every year or two And there is no doubt in your mind but that the road would prove a paying investment invest-ment for both counties J There cannot bo the slightest doubt about it leaving Morgan county and the benefits to be derived from a closer connection con-nection with her entirely out of the question ques-tion this city owes it to itself and the taxpayers tax-payers to construct a road a drive a boulevard or whatever you may choose to call it up this canon in order that your citizens may enjoy the many advantages to be obtained from a canon drive during ib3 summer and fall and spring months It would be a great attraction for all tourists who come this way If nothing is done before the next session of the legislature legisla-ture that body should bo worked for all ait its is worth If the people of both counties feel they are too poor to build the road without help from the territory of course we must wait until the next legislature meets However that may be the road should be built and the can scarcely afford to wait the convening of the next body of scions If possible the work should be undertaken early next spring |
