Show Institute of American Architects I WASHINGTON Oct 22The annual convention I I vention of the Institnte of American Architectsbegan today The attendance is very encouraging representing all parts of the union Many interesting and valuable valu-able reports Tvill be presented and papers read before the convention during the three days session out the discussion held today to-day matters was chiefly devoted to preliminary R M Hunt president of the institute was unable to be present on account of illness and his report was read by one of the directors In it referring to government govern-ment building work as conducted by the architects office of the treasury he said while the work was generally well done We must hold it preposterous to assume that anyone person can do justice to the present requirements of the office The present management is by no means an economic one and it Is natural to attribute the perpetuation of it to political jobbery or indifference to wards matters rs ot at Were national buildings in charge of well selected men I and the duties of the supervising architect restricted to general supervision of them it is but reasonable to assume the government 1 govern-ment would be better and more economically I eco-nomically served |
