Show featdA A Question of Duty on Balls in Bond WASHINGTON Oct 22Assistant Secretary i Secre-tary Spaulding ha written to the collector i of customs at San Francisco in regard to certain steel rails now in the bonded warehouses ware-houses which were withheld from sale from time to time at the requestof the Oregon Pacific railway company It is understood un-derstood the railway company is anxious to withdraw the rails and pay the duties i thereon in a short time and tho question I arises whether they are dutiable under the old or the new tariff bill Spaulding says as the rails were accepted before the passage pas-sage of the new tariff act and the rails remained re-mained in bond merely by suffrance and not legally they do not come within the purview of the act and therefore are dutiable duti-able under the old law |
