Show OUT AT FORT JDUGHESNB Newsy Notes From the Home of the Military Ii Boys I have received the following notes from THE HERALD correspondent at Fort Du chcsno The Keith boys have returned from the Vernal mines and will take their departure in a few days for Salt Lake and on arriving will visit Captain Whitall Sixteenth infantry in-fantry at Fort Douglas It is rumored in the post that Lieutenant Brown Sixteenth infantry has volunteered for field duty at the seat of the Indian trouble The top mast of the flagstaff was taken down on December S1 the storm flag being so entangled in the halyards as to make its removal impossible any other way First Sergeant Festus McNamara company com-pany F Sixteenth infantry has applied for a transfer to the department ot Texas His application is highly recommended by the post surgeon who has been treating Sergeant Ser-geant McNamara for catarrh contracted at 1 the post The sergeant is a young soldier and bears anexcellant character Sergeant Wolfs company F SixteenthS Sixteenth-S infantry is sick in the hospital with intermittent inter-mittent fever but at present is on the road to recovery Company F Sixteenth infantry is expecting ex-pecting to greet Lieutenant Woodbury very soon as its captain Sergeant Schmidt Company C Sixteenth infantry has applied for a ten days pass A dancing club has been organized by the I boys of the Sixteenth and gave their initial fl hop on Thursday December 11 Divine worship is conducted every week J by Post Chaplain W C Scott as follows a SundaysSunday school at 1030 a m preaching at 045 pm The theme ably presented by the reverend gentleman on December 7 was Sowing and Reaping Trust a good many of the boys at the post will subscribe for THE HERALD It pub fihts cur news and treats us with a fair o I S a I ness seldom accorded a soldier by the press in general in these latter days when the usual comments upon a regular soldiers life are being freely made Several of the boys are practicing for a show which they intend giving some time during the month the mosi popular members mem-bers of the club being Sergeant Trapper Corporal George Rhend and Musician Manning the latter gentleman being the composer of a many good songs and gags Our brass band entertained the boys at the canteen on Saturday evening December Decem-ber 6 with a most pleasurable serenade Captain Wedemeyer Sixteenth infantry is daily expected home having passed a most satisfactory mental examination for promotion to the rank of major though his physical examination was unsuccessful Captain Wedemeyer will retire as a major Captain Wedemeyer was born in Germany and was appointed from the army He was private sergeant company H and sergeant major first battalion Sixteenth infantry from November 101861 to September 9 I 18C2 second lieutenant Sixteenth infantry August 13 1S62 accepted September U 1SKJ first lieutenant February 14 1863 and captain November 101865 He has been a brevet captain since September 20 1863 and is a most worthy officer having the entire confidence of the commissioned and enlisted strength with which he has come in contact FRITZ |
