Show D anti E En Route to Beaver Creek CHADRON Neb Jan 4 From our special Correspondent in the Field Orders Or-ders were received at 9 oclock this morning morn-ing atFt Robinson for two companies to go to Chadron and thence proceed to a point on Beaver creekabout twentyeight miles distant Arrived this afternoon at Chad I ron an immense crowd was at the depot to greet us Amongst them was seen a company com-pany of Nebraska militia thirtyeight strong who are here from Fremont to guard the town Our command is composed com-posed of two companies D and E Sixteenth Six-teenth infantry and officered by Captains Morrison and Ward and Liu tenants Chandler Chand-ler and Ballou Each man carries fifty rounds ofammunition in his field belt The court house hero is crowded with refuges as well as every spare room I am told that parties go out every morning toward the reservation to look out for the marauding reds A large band of horses was sent from hero yesterday to Beaver creek to be used in mounting the First infantry A fight between the troops presumably Carrs commandtook place in the vicinity of Beaver creek the result re-sult as yet not known here No news from Pine Ridge agency today yet courriers report much fighting in that vicinity ana that fourteen riderless horses I came into the agency The excitement in L this section runs very high yet I am inclined in-clined that under the able guidance of General Miles the trouble will soon be at an end Wo are now sleeping in our cars and will pull out at G oclock in the morning morn-ing The nights are getting very cool and i last night at Fort Robinson was like camping in an ice house The boys are cheerful Our friends in Salt Lake will know by this that our command is split up but all are well As the wire is so burdened with military matters I shall have to trust much to the mails |
