Show News From Clay Creek Camp I I DENVER Jan 7The JNeics correspondent correspon-dent at the camp on White Clay creek wires No new developments have occurred I oc-curred at this point All are anxiously waiting for the word to attack the hostiles General Brooke anc staff are encamped at Wounded Knee where they have established estab-lished the headquarters of tho department o f the Platte A cordon of troops is clos ins in around the hostiles in the valley of White Clay creek General Brooke has given instructions to each commander of troops in this vicinity to patrol the country from one command to the other to see that no party of hostiles escape Late last night the camp was aroused by shots from outlying out-lying pickets about two miles from the camp A picket rode into camp and said a band of Indians had tried to surprise them by shooting at them from behind a pile of rocks They immediately returned tae fire As the night was dark the number of Indians is not known but judging from the number of shots they must have numbered at least twenty Two troops of cavalry hurried to the scene but on their arrival they could find no Indians During the firing wounded one of the pickets was slightly |
