Show THE WOOL MARKET a A Flourishing Wool BusIness In the South Some of the Shippers In an interview with J E Clinton and E R Booth the Biisfyti reporter learned that the Utah Wool Growers company has been doing a flourishing business in the wool trade during the present month Up to date and since the 1st of July that company com-pany alone has paid out 102000 for wooL Within the last week said Mr Clinton Clin-ton we have handled some very large clips which have ranged from 12000 to 71000 pounds each Following arc the names of a few of the owners of the largest clips handled within the past seven days Nephi Schofield 71000 pounds Will Schclield 30000 I pounds Collins Lisenby 30000 pounds J W Seely 15000 pounds J G Ecker 15000 pounds T G Smith 12000 pounds The company has been notified II says Mr Clinton that the existing special freight rates will be withdrawn on the 81st inst We are therefore ruhing wool out as fast as possible In order to clear up all the stock we have on hand at tho present time as the regular tariff rates will take effect on the 1st of August next The rate I Increases the freight on baled wool on all I rail shipments to Boston from SlJO to S24GX per hundred pounds In letter from Mr Eccles i am informed that there is a bare possibility of something happening happen-ing to prov at tho rates from going into effect as it is an outrageous price and should bo reduced I The conditions of tho eastern market can bo seen from the following clipping from the Boston Advertiser The market for territory wools is quiet but some business is being done at about former rates The sales made are strictly on the scoured basis consequently while dealers are busy on sample bags the movement move-ment in round lots is moderate The fact that more wool is coming forward makes buyers more indifferent and before buying they generally look over the market very closely They are on tho lookout for cheap lots but ns yet holders arc not disposed to weaken much Some largo sales have not gone through owing to a difference of half a cent between buyer and seller which shows there is a bottom to the market The fact that the wools in havo cost high F prevents receivers from sacrificing and the 1 sales made are at about former rates Considerable Con-siderable Texas wool has been cleaned up these wools ranging about tho same as choice territories for twelve months growth with six to eight months wools allS all-S and cents less California wools are meeting with a quiet sale spot offerings being small Territory woolsMont fine 18 and Oe Mont lIne med 21 and 22c Mont coarse med 23 and 240 Wyoming Utah and Colorado Col-orado tine 16 and ISc Wyoming Utah and Colorado med 19 and 52 < j WyomingUtah and Colorado coarse med 21 and 24c From tho above it will be seen that our wools arc classed with those of Colorado and Wyoming This classification said Mr Clinton is a great injustice to our Utah wool because they are a much finer and lighter quality than those of either of j the states mentioned More than half of our wool is sold to eastern manufacturers as Montana wool and they never know the difference Our wools should properly bo classified with Montana wools and we are J roine to make a strong kick at the next an I J 01 nual meeting of the Utah wool growers unless un-less that dassificatiaius made without it As to prices here Mr Booth said they were a trifle higher this week than they had been for a week or two past but that was on account of quality alone last weeks clip being extra light and fine For these over 10 cents per pound has been paid I Xcplii Ensign |
