Show A BIGYCLE COSTUME 1 One of the Latest Ideas By the Great Redfern REDFERNS NEW RIDING HABIT A Country or Mountain DressThree Fotch ias Rigs Which Will Be Greatly Admired By All NEN YORK April 231S90 Special correspondence cor-respondence of TUB HEKALD Our sketches this week are redolent of bright breezy outdoor lifeof long delightful days on shaded winding country roads of mountain climbing and seashore rambles and hours spent rod in hand by quiet trout streams in fact of all those open air delights which are in such marked contrast con-trast to the more artificial amusements of the winter season And in order that such occupation may lose nothing of their pleasure pleas-ure because of hampering inappropriate costume i is of course Redfern who comes to the fore with models which will confer comfort grace and style upon their wearers wear-ers whether they incline to a walking tour to the saddle of the equestrienne or to that more unwonted steed the bicycle For riding this last vehicle a genuine novelty has been prepared and one which is at once so Jaunty as well as convenient that many a damsel will be tempted to try cycling if only for the sake of the pretty costume f HJ s 1 BEDFEUNS BICYCLE DRESS The accompanying sketch shows the details de-tails of the gown It is rough tweed in irregular ir-regular plaids of any color the wearer chooses The skirt which is really in two sections after the divided model is so closely pleated that it hangs as one and it is only the increased freedom of movement which makes its wearer aware that it is different from the ordinary walking skirt A very short wrinkled tablier modifies the untrhnmed look of the straight skirt and the loose fitting jacket opens over a plaited shirt of embroidered linen or pique whose turned over collar is finished by a tight little lit-tle Hvat of lawn The round fezlike cap has a miniature bicycle embroidered on the right side and fittingly completes a most I fetching rig and one which is warranted to make apretty girl even more bewitching than when arrayed in her ball gown REDFERNS NEW RIDING HABIT Another specialty is an entirely new riding rid-ing habit made of waterproof fancy diagonal diago-nal cloth suitable for summer wear The bodice is cut in quite a novel fashion with a waistcoat of very horseylooking check jersey cloth in bright colors The bodice can either button across this in the centre or remain Open all the way down at the wish of the wearer The skirt fits to a nicety being cut on a patent safety principle princi-ple in such a manner that it will neither drag nor tuck up and can be made to wear on any modern saddle thus combining combin-ing with elegance the greatest comfort and security t the wearer Tnis skirt is also as graceful and comfortable for walking as riding being arranged to fasten up very ingeniously on one side The breeches or trousers are made of silk jersey or material mate-rial to match the habit A silk hat is usually worn In the Park but for country wear a low felt derby or even a straw hat can be worn the latter being much in vgue in England last year for young ladies The most approved boots are dress Wellingtons gloves tan dogskin I is not generally known that all the habits Redfern makes for the Princess of Wales arc made to be worn on the right side of the horse owing to 1 slight injury thafothe fair equestrienne sustained to her knee when a child at Copenhagen Her Royal Highness has had all her daughters taught to ride on either side of the saddle informing Mr Redfern that she thought it would avoid all tendency to injury to the spine And finally to finish the trio we give a sketch of the new gown in which tho girl of the period will tramp through the moun tains a few months hence This too is a tweed in narrow stripes or it might be made of English waterproof or serge The skirt is bordered all round the bottom and faced underneath with thin patent leather which prevents its becoming draggled and I can be easily cleaned The edge of the flap which buttons river on the right side is also bordered witha narrow leather band A leather belt and high gaiters are also feature of tho costume and the head covering cov-ering may bo a striped fishers cap a straw becoming sailor or any other easy negligee1 hab that is l t If Mt ¼ |
