Show Braves Bounce Back To Hammer Skyline Team By DAVE WIGHAM MURRAY -- After a poor showing in their opening round game the Bountiful High baseball team came back in the second round to show some people why they were the number one rated club in the state entering the state tournament. IN THEIR second game the Braves jumped on Skyline pitching for a 9-2 win. It wasn't just the Eagles' pitching that was hurting but the fielding of the Skyline crew was anything but perfect. per-fect. On the other hand the Braves got a great performance perfor-mance out of Steve Hilton. All Steve did on the day was scatter five hits during the seven inning game and come up with a double and home run at the plate. TALK around the field was that the two day rain delay was more beneficial to those schools with only one pitcher but the Braves also got a break with the delay. Steve was hit on the hand, his throwing hand, in their opening open-ing day loss lo Kearns and even he was doubtful if he could have pitched on Tuesday. Tues-day. "On Monday night ihe hand swelled up and it was pretty sore on Tuesday, the (wo days rest helped a lot. The hand was tight in the first couple of innings but then it felt fine." Chris Duvies doubled and Scott Irwin received a walk and then Lynn Muir hil a slow roller that was fielded but thrown wide at first base allowing both runs to score. AGAIN the Lagles came back wilh the long ball 10 knot the score in the bottom of ihe filth. Bountiful then took control of ihe game in Ihe sixth with a three run outburst. John Luddington started things off with u solo home run over Ihe left center wall. The Braves picked up a couple of more runs with a couple of doubles by Hilton and Davies. FOR insurance the Braves pushed another four runs across the plate in the seventh with the big blast being Hilton's Hil-ton's two run homer and a throwing error by the Skyline pitcher. The win put the. Braves in the position of meeting Bingham, with their ace Fred Roberts, the loss made Skyline the first club to be eliminated from the lour-nament. |
