Show THE LIBEL SUIT A Cloud of Witnesses Pat On for the Defense The AustinTribune libel suit again consumed the whole day before Judge Zane yesterday The defendants still continued to show their justification for the publication of the alleged libels A cloud of witnesses was examined among them being J F Corker James T Little J E Dooly James Lawrence H W Lawrence M S Ascheim George M Cannon George W Reed J M Goodwin Major Nounnan the deposition deposi-tion of John C Young and the documents docu-ments in the suit of Bowers against the London Bank were also produced in evidence The principal testimony elicited was from Mr Little who said that London Bank stock had no market value by which he said he meant that he would not have cared to loan upon it with regard re-gard to Mammoth stock he said when he bid lit was with a view to sell it at 150 possibly more He withdrew his bid on March 2ith 1883 because he had changed his mind regarding the security secur-ity He knew instances where Mammoth Mam-moth had been taken as collateral at 150 and 160 Mr Dooly was examined ex-amined as to the condition of the London Lon-don Bank which he had looked Into after af-ter it was closed up in his opinion its condition was bad The other witnesses witnes-ses were examined as to the value of Rebellion stock transfers of property I etc Mr Goodwin and Mr Reed Tribune Tri-bune employes stated with reference to the articles in the Tribune booming Mammoth stock and giving quotations as to shipments transfers of stock etc that they were furnished the paper either by Mr Sel wyn teller at the London Bank or by Mr Plummor superintendent at the Mammoth and were published without question At the conclusion of the reading of the deposition of John C Young the reporter who brought in the alleged libelous article and who stated that the item was not only furnished but written writ-ten by W H H Bowers court adjourned ad-journed till this morning |
