Show C KINKS OF CRIMINALS The Officers Already on Young Rib bards Trail FORGER RAYMONDS CRIME He Forced Only Two NotesFrank Engler Goes Unpunished Other matters S The following cases havi been disposed dis-posed of by Judga Pyper in the Police Court The charge of forgery against Joseph Carter has ben dismiised and that individual in-dividual will be tried today on a charge of obtaining money ucd3r false pretenses pre-tenses Frank Engler the young fellow who almost scalped Henry Steward in the Fisher Beer Hall on Christmas night was caught by the police in a saloon night before last and came up for trial before Judge Pyper yesterday On being arraigned on a charge of battery he entered a plea of not guilty and the taking of testimony was proceeded with Engler had plenty of witnesses on hand to swear that the deed was done in selfCefensa and in the ligit of the evidence produced the court decided that the act wa justifiable and therefore there-fore discharged the defendant and dismissed dis-missed the case The police dont take kindly to the judgment of the court they being of the opinion that the witnesses wit-nesses for the defense were not altogether alto-gether trustworthy John McNally who ia charged with battery will have a hearing today FORGER RAYMOND Brief mention was made in yesterdays yester-days HEBALD ot the fact that Joseph Raymond wanted in Ogden on a charge of forgery had been arrested by the police in this city There seems to be a pretty strong case against Raymond Ray-mond When asked how many checks he had forged he replied Ohonly i two 10 ones This was said in a tone that indicated that he thought a man should not be disturbed for a trifling thing like that but before the law is through with him he will doubtless find that forging only two 10 checks can lead to some very serious results The police say that Raymond is very dull lacking entirely the sharpness of the ideal forger He was taken to Ogden yesterday afternoon and will be given a hearing shortly HIS CRIME S The Ogdea Standard has the folloWing follow-ing in relation to Raymonds crime Again some or cur merchants hav been viciim zed by a forger This time it proves to be aa employee of Mr Biel the Fifth Street butcher Joseph Raymond Ray-mond who has tasen advantage of his employers confidence to enrich him selt He forged two checks on the Commercial National Bank of 10each and succeeded in cashing one at Mr Ashbvs abcs store and the other at Mr Paysons cigar store When presented pre-sented at the bank they were refused and the forgery discovered In the meantime the culprit has flad no one knows where though some clue his been obtained as to the direction ha took |
