Show NEGRO OUTRAGES They Burn Store and Threaten Various Things FRAXKS JXSTItUGTIOSS TO NAGLE He Warned Him to Take No Chances Attempt t Burglarize VIcePresident Mortons Residence Cabinet Meeting NEW JOniEiNS Sept 4A TlmcsDemu crat Greenwood Miss special says The most dastardly outrage since tho beginning of the trouble in the upper part of the count was perpetrated by George Allen and his squad of fifteen negroes last night by tho burning of Mr Jamisons store at Shady Grove on the Tallahatchie river They went there and asked for powder and shot Jamison refused to let them have any and they told him they would either burn his house or kill him They caught him fired his house fired their guns and made further hostile demonstrations Jamison got away and went t Sunnyside informing the people of what had happened hap-pened At the same time a negro deserter from Allens band offered to pilot the whites to Allens camp at Lone Star bend i they would spare him and his two brothers who were among Allens men About two hundred men started for the hostile camp which is six miles above Sunnyside but it has not been learned whether the succeeded in capturing him yet I is not likely he will be taken alive a he is a very desperate negro Jt now transpires that the negro whom he killed last Monday night for refusing to take up arms against the whites was his own brother Yesterday the sheriffs posse got sigHt of two negroes who had gone to ClevelaQd for ammunition The negroes jumped from their mules and fled into May brick The posse captured the mules and 200 Winchester rifle cartridges ten pounds of buckshot and five pounds of powder Further particulars from up the river state that the four negro leaders who were killed yesterday were killed by the sheriffs posse while resisting arrest The hostile negroes are now estimated esti-mated from one hundred to one hundred and fifty and they are still in largo squads one of which is led by George Allen and another one by one Backitt The object of the sheriff is tq capture the leaders and deal with them according to law Their followers are merely ignorant negroes vho hardly understand what they are about |
