Show A Terrible Catastrophe PiTTsBcro May 31The flood at Johns town has resulted an awful catastrophe It is said that the reservoir above the town broke about 5 clock this evening and an immense volume of water rushed down to the city carrying with it death and destruction des-truction Houses with then occupants ere swept away and many people were drowned There is no communication with Johnstown but telegraph operator in the i Pennsj IvamiJiailroad tower at SangHallok twelve miles this side of Johnstown say that at the least sev entj flv c dead bodies have floated past The wires arc all down and no trains are running east of Blan smith which is about twentj five miles west of Johnstow There is no way to got go-t the scene of the disaster and full particulars particu-lars can hardly be obtained tonight although al-though every effort is being made to do so There will be no trains through to the east tomorrow The latest report of reliable information received from Johnstown comes through the Pennsylvania railroad officials and show that over two hundred dead bodies have been counted floating down steam at Johnstow while along the line many additional addi-tional lives have been lost I is asserted that there are but two houses In Johnstown i proper above the water line te lne 1 A special bearing Pennsylvania railway officials and Associated Press correspondents correspond-ents has left this city for the scene Telegraphic Tele-graphic communication is entirely cut off and until the telegraph is repaired the men and operators with the necessary instruments in-struments to open up the line at the nearest point obtained but little reliable information can be |
