Show Presbyterian Powwow PHILADELPHIA May 26 Clergymen from Maine to Texas and from the Atlantic At-lantic to the Pacific were in attendance this morning at the opening of the twentyninth general assembly of the United Presbyterian Church of North America There were present about 3 000 delegates comprising an equal I number of ministers and laymen The opening prayer was followed by the election of a new moderator The contest was of especial interest since it involved the instrumental music issue over which for some time the church has been divded Two nominations were made Rev Matthew McCormick Gibson Gib-son DD of San Francisco an earnest I advocate of the organ and Rev J G Carson of Xenia Ohio an antiinstru I mental candidate The annual financial reports of the Board of Foreign Missions Mis-sions of Church Extension Education Freemans Mission and publication were presented J I |
