Show BACK FROM DENVER Good Work of the Salt Lake Delegation SECRETARY FORIIANS VIEWS A New Railroad ProjectGreat Interest Inter-est Manifested la Salt Lake City and Utah Mr Forhan Secretary of the Cham ber of Commerce who want to Denver Den-ver last week to aid in tho good workof booming this city and Territory i I reached home on Sunday was seen byI a HEKALD reporter last night and when asked if the visit of the Sail lake delegation dele-gation had been a pi asant ene he said The Denver people treated Us royally they have a strong feeling of local pride and there is scarcely a citizen citi-zen who would not sacrifi his personal interests to sustain THE HOKOB AND PRIDE OF DENVER This is characteristic of the people and nstead of there being any feeling cf rivalry or jealousythe citizens gava us a most hearty welcome and assisted in tbe work in which the committee was engaged The hotels gave us permission to hang pictures in the corridors and to distribute printed matter among their guests President Donald Fletcher of the Denver Chamber of Commerce and Frank Hall the secretary treated us cordially and when I told Mr Fletcher that we had come to derive some benefit for Bait Lake from the work they had inaugurated he simply patted me on the back and said GO AUEAD WE WILL HELP YOU and cxpr < s ell a desire to see the people of Sat Lako and Denver realize that the interests of both cities were so closely Identified that they could cooperate with each other to their mutual benefit After several private discussions with President Fletcher the whole Salt Lake delegation delega-tion visited the Chamber of Commerce and were entertained by Governor Ltoutt Judge Allard of Leavenworth and other dignitaries who seemed inclined in-clined to cooperate with them In the work of developing the internal resources I of Oolorado and Utah taking particular I interest in the idea ot enuring a railroad i rail-road lino from the Missouri River to Salt Lake The idea is to organize a directory from prominent citizens of Leaveuworth Denver and Salt Lake fov the construction of a line from Kansas City through the northern part of Texas through which there are no lines running run-ning at present to Denver Salt Lake City and westward to the Pacific Coast President Fletchers pet scheme which he has inaugurated in theintoreatof his city is to run a now line through the northern portion of Colorado through Middle Park and Grand and Iloutt Counties which are very rich in mineral and agricultural resources and then OS TO SALT LAKH CITY If the cooperation of our citizens can be secured In the past three lines of survey have bean made from Denver data of which have already been submitted sub-mitted to the Denver Chamber of Commerce Two of these do not reach Salt Lake City and one goes westward by way of O dell o1that it behooves our citzens if they would secure the advantages ad-vantages to accrue from the construction construc-tion of a new road to co open tewith ihe people ofJDanver in bringing it to Salt Lake Tho proposition is to unite the mercantile and other interests ot Leav enwortb Denver and Sols Lake so as to add weight to the movement and convince con-vince the railroad officials interested that WE ARE VOKTHY OF ATTENTION At the present time there are several railroad lines which do not es tend farther west than Kansas City rtil they are h tudicapped in their efforts ef-forts to secure western business by the connections existing between Rocky Mountain points with the Atchison Topeka Burlington fc Kansas Missouri Pacific Union Pacific and other roads Lines not having western connections arc naturally anxious to remedy this evil und the originators of this new railroad enterprise have almost AK ABSOLUTE GUARANTEE that at least one of these will be anxious to avail themselves cf any proposition enabling tnem to make connections with Salt Lake and Denver but even if they should fail to take advantage of the opportunity thus presented there is a further guaranteed that sufficient suf-ficient first mortgage bonds can be floated in the east to insure the construction con-struction of the new line President Fletcher and other prominent citizens of Denver are likely to VISIT OUR CITY within a few weeks to ask the cooperation cooper-ation of our citizens in this enterprise e which is sure to result in great benefit to us When asked as to the work done by the delegation Mr Forhan said IT CAKKOT BE CALCULATED Every hotel was flooded with advertising I adver-tising matter and our headquarters at i the Markham were crowded all day long and often far into the night and the immense amount of advertising matter taKen by us was all distributed to good advantage advan-tage I found no very earnest desire displayed on the part of the railroads to help our city but Mr Meek general manager of the Denver and Gulf gave us hit assurance of good will and I KINDLY FEELING TOWARDS SAL LAKE and promised to give an excursion during dur-ing the coming summer from Galveston Galves-ton Fort Worth and other points Among the visitors to Denver of whom there were thousands there seemed to bo a deep interest in Salt Lake but many were controlled in their opinions opin-ions and estimates by prejudice It may be said however that our city is receiving all tbe attention it is entitled to and that the interest of the whole country is aroused which fs saying a great deal If our own people would but awake to a full uuderstand of the advantages of their city SOT A PL4C2 IN AMERICA could ba so easily built up ard made a centre of busy life and universal attraction attrac-tion The Denver papers exception ex-ception treated us with the greatest kindness and consideration and kind words were received on every hand The thousands of strangers including every member of the Salt Lake delegation delega-tion felt delighted at the treatment received re-ceived and we feel that we can never fully reciprocate I certainly consider con-sider that our visit has been a great success even though the work should not bear immediate fruit which we can hardly expect on acsount ot tbe ex ban < tion resulting from the weeks festivities I am satisfied that DENYBK HAS GROWN 80 IHTEBESTBD in Salt Lake that we will have a large number of people from thU point visit us this summer Tbe work dene by the committee has resulted in pood in so many ways that it would bo impossible impos-sible to state them all |
