12After the usual routine morning busines the Senate resumed consideration of the tariff bill at section 2 41 the first of the administrative sections A few changes as to phraseology were made in administrative sections and the reading read-ing of the bill finished at 145 pm Then Allison went back to section Ci as to methylated spirits for the use in arts which had several changes mac e in its phraseology so as tJ indue e other substances for methylating spirits besides wood naphta Morgan sent to the clerks desk an amendment which he prop jsed to offer to the bill at the proper time It reads All laws and parts of laws which exempt from payment of duties any article of commerce upon which duties are imposed in this act when in transit through the United States to or from the Dominion of Canada or any province pro-vince thereof are hereby declared in operation ON MOTION OF ALLISON paragraph 7 schedule of chemical products pro-ducts was amended by increasing the rate of alcoholic perfumery including cologne water and other toilet waters from 2 per gallon and i5 per cent ad valorem to 2 per gallon and 70 percent per-cent ad valorem Changes were also made in paragraph 8 soluble oil 35 gelatine i 80 seal oil etc so as to include I in-clude herring oil 101 all other earthenware earthen-ware so as to include lava gas burner I tins 102 tiles and brick berate I be-rate from 20 to 25 per cent ad valorem 108 glass and glassware adding the words lenses of glaas or pebble and 114 plate glass unsilvered by striking out ttle provision for the smallest size par tliph 178 as to lead wan amended so as to road lead ore lead gross 14 cent per pound provided that silver ore contain ng lead shall pay aduty of IJs csnts per pound on the lead contained con-tained therein Allison moved he would call it up on Tues davBurrows Burrows objected Weaver stated he would make HO MORE DILATORY MOTIONS until he heard more from the committee com-mittee on rules The bill on which the previous question was ordered last session to increase the pension of Elizabeth G Scott to 50 per month was adopted Dibble of South Carolina submitted the conference report on the bill increasing in-creasing the limit of tbe cost for the purchase cf a site for a public building in San Francisco The conference gives the limit flt80 000 Agreed to The souse went into the committee of the whole on the general has refrained from sending a minister to Washington for the purpose of resenting what it considered to be an insul It was the most absured thing to nis mind I that the United States should send a minister to the royal court The system sys-tem was absolutely unfitted to the character of a foeign country The committee arose ana the two appropriation appro-priation bills passed The committee resumed its session for consideration of tue fortification bill The bill appropriates SSOOOO Townsend of Illinois raised the point of order against all the items in the bill appropriating 100000 for
