Show Sunday School Onion The May meeting of the Sunday School officers and teachers of this stake was held in the Social Hall last evening May 2d Superintendent JO Cutler presiding The opening singing exercises were well rendered by therwent first Ward Sundsy School led by Thomas aic Intyre The opening prayer was offered by assistant superintendent R Aveson The secretary called the roll of the schools of this staku A very good representation 1 rep-resentation was present from all the city warJs except the Sixth and Tenth and from the following country wardi North Point East Mill Creek and Farmers After the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting Elder Mi t f Woolley of the Twentyfirst Ward delivered de-livered an interesting address I on the subject of obedience illustrating by apt anecdotes the importance of the subject being thoroughly understood under-stood by the young Referring to the want of respect shown by the youth towards their elders towards the rights of others and towards the sacredness of our houses of worship the speaker suggested that there was a wide field for the teacher and parents to correct these evils The congregation sang The Holy SpiritGuide You Mrs Margaret Schutt also of the Twenty first Ward real a well written essay on the subject of Intelligence The congregation sang The Child r ns Song Prayer A number of little boys from the primary class of the Twentyfirst Ward school gave a very pleasing exercise from the catechism Superintendent H P Richards of the Fourteenth Ward Sunday School was the next speaker He felt to ask whether our ll h IYnnti bunuay scnooia were coin g an mo g uuu that they might Much good was being dune but the speaker felt that an effort ought to be made to induce all the children of the Saints to attend the Sunday schools as there were a great many children not attending who were not receiving the benefit of the teaching imparted in our schools Assistant Stake Superintendent Home requested that the superintendents of each of the schools of this stake furnish the secretary with statistics of the number num-ber of children of school age in their wards and the number of these who attend at-tend the Sunday school Assistant General Superintendent George Gdddard stated that he had been informed that Only twothirds th3 childn of this city were attending our Sabbath schools He urged the superintendentsto adopt some measure which would bring in all the children under the influence of the Sunday bhools where they could be taught true and cdrrect principles I The choir sang au anthem Benediction Bene-diction was offered by Superintendent I Tuckett of the Eleventh Ward The nieces in < be sang by the con gregation at the June meeting are Give us room that we maydwell The coming day that we may dwell The First Ward school to furnish the singing and part of the programmer < programme-r JOSEPH H PABKT Seertary j |
