Show A DAY OF PRAYER 1 The Presidents Household Spend the Sabbath in Devotion ThAT DEAR PRECIOUS BABY I Kills the Halls With laughter and Tumbles All Over the Floor No Sun day Work Special to THE HEKALD Examiner Dispatch WASHINGTON March 11 President and Mrs Harrison spent an ideal first Sunday in the White house which will bo a fair sample of future ones there The family breakfasted early and before the bells all around had chimed 11 two carriage loads of the family were on the way to church The president chose the Church of the Covenant as his place of worship yesterday affiliating again with the same congregation with which he was associated during his senatorial life here nis FIRST LOVE The Covenant is the church with the gleaming white tower which has be re built since its collapse last summer The president was one of the first contributors to the erection of this edifice when it was started a few years ago Mr and Mrs Russell Harrison Mrs Mc Kce and their guests Miss Newcome Miss Constance and Miss McKee accompanied the president and his wife to church Of course after service they held art informal reception and rode home quietly for the midday luncheon Private Secretary Halford attended the foundry Methodist church where president presi-dent and Mrs Hays used to go A CONSTITUTIONAL The afternoon was a quiet one the family all enjoyed the rest and toward sundown sun-down the president and his son with Hal ord went out for a constitutional tramp Neither arc well enough known yet to create any sensation on the street They were back for a 0 oclock dinner at which Dr Scott Mrs Harrisons father joined he family Before S oclock Albert Hawkins in his sober livery of green cloth drove up the residential coupe to take the old gentlemen gentle-men home The family kept up stairs Oil THAT HABT The baby had a jolly time playing in the corridor with his grandmother The president presi-dent took the tiny Benjamin into the library with him and the noise of the ouugster in the height of his fun and mer imeut could be heard all over the house THE MIS ills AFTEUNOON The nurses and maids were all off for the veiling and the ladies took care of tha children and everything else themselves The president did not dp a stroke of work all day in his office Neither did any of the clerks Mr Halford says that there is not going to be any work done in the white house on Sunday that is not absolutely necessary riSATEUS VS POLITICS If there were any appointments talked of in the semiquiet and seclusion np stairs dr Halfordhad not heard of them officially It was the first day since the president cameo came-o Washington that politics and the office seekers did not obtrude themselves on him family prayers were resumed this mom log That may be the reason for it |
