Show TO THE ARMY AND NAvY 1 The Reception at the White House i Last Evening i WASHINGTON February 10 The Presidents reception to the army an l navy tonigM was more largely attended tended than any of those which have preceded it The state parlors andcor ridors were handsomely and elaborately decorated with tropical plants The east room was a shifting panorama of gay iostnmes in an eSqnisite setting of handsome decorations and near the centre of the east wall of the room was a bower of tropical plants almost al-most to the ceiling On the other side and along the walls palms and potted pines wore tastefully arranged On the mantels or the west wall of the room were placed small dark green plants facing banks of cut flowers on the opposite mantels The four f large white and gilt columns of the room were twined round with smilax t Officers of the army and navy were present in large numbers and the diplomatic I diplo-matic corps nad numerous representatives representa-tives The President and Mrs Cleve land were assisted receiving by Mrs Manning Mrs Endicott nod Mrs Vilas while Miss Cleveland Miss Van Vechten and a number 3Kothers occupied occu-pied the space immediately behind the receiving party Mrs Cleveland was charmingly attired in a dress of pale blue silk |
