Show TUB AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE The Laying of the Corner Stone at Logan on Friday Last I att ended the imposing ceremony of tho laying of the corner stone of the agricultural agricul-tural college at Logan Speeches were made by Rev Mr Steves Elder Leishman and Governor Thomas appropriate to the occasion < Governor Thomas congratulated congratu-lated the people of Cache county on haying secured this college for their county and spoke with eloquence and warmth of the desire of the government to meet the wishes of the people as far as possible aud that every state and territory must keep up with the march of progress or be left behind in the race This longfelt want of an agricultural college was now about to be met and while now only one wing of this grand building would be completed in the near future he hopes to see the full design carried out The music discoursed by the firemans band was appropriate and sweet and the occasion one to be long remembered The site for this college is exceptionally fine being high up on the bench land at tho base of the mountain from which we have a view of surpassing beauty of this valley than which there is no sight of more lovely audscape in this territory or in any other for Cache valley carries the palm for scenic beauty The ground for this college was donated by the Cache county and City of Logan The territorial legislature donated SjOOO The placing of the small tin box inside the corner stone containing trophies and records has something of a novelty tome to-me and when dropping in my small coin I 1 wondered when that box would ever be opened to human eyes Decades will pass centuries may passbefore these records shall ever eavo their resting place LOGAN July IS 1SS9 C I K |
