Show AN ASSURED SUCCESS The proposition to build a railroad from his city toDeep Creekand thence to Los Angeles is assuming a very definite and very favorable shape There is not so mach cause for rejoicing j on this fact though it is cause enough as in the fact that there is a spirit among the citizens ofSalt Lake to carry the road themselves Of the six or seven hundred miles of railroad built largely by the efforts of the inhabitants of Utah bul few miles have been worthless worth-less and there was never a time nora proposition for the building of a railroad rail-road outward from Utah that seemed so favorable as this The proposition has a clear objective point of sufficient importance itself to justify the work new about to be undertaken Added to this are innumerable minor reasons which were the first wanting would in the aggregate warrant the inauguration inaugura-tion of the enterprise THE HERALD rejoices at this step for many reasons Its great desire is the material welfare of Utah For that it has always contended and I will continue always to contend Every movement having the permanent prosperity of the Territory in view has been befriended be-friended by this journal and it is more determined in its friendship today than ever before We believe the building of this line will prove of more lasting and immediate imme-diate material value to Utah and to Salt Lake than anything of the kind discussed in a number of years We have so long been tributary to other points less favorably situated and less fortunately blessed but the tax of Caesar had to be paid to Caesar By the building of this line however other places will become tributary to Utah and a lasting market will be opened for exportation at fair figures such as is denied us now and such as has ever been denied usIn such a consummation with a growing area tribute paying there is a great and lasting prosperity for Utah in the building of this proposed pro-posed road We rejoice that it gives every reason for hoping it will prove an immediate imme-diate as well as an enduring source of revenue to the promoters K this be the case they will not readily part with it as has so often been done before and the value and importance of its control con-trol by the people of Utah is simply inestimable in-estimable The character of the men named as associated in the enterprise is the strongest possible guarantee of its soundness as a business investment and of the assurance it will neither languish lan-guish nor fail once undertaken This is but a forerunner of much that is coming to Utah of the same kind Let it come |
