Afflirted Saint to Christ draw ner i by Saviors gracious promise hear Elder AH Kaleigh made the opening prjer Choir sang another hymn A poor wayfaring man fo grief f J l ft Hath often crossed me on my way The pnesthood of the Fourth Ward attended at-tended to the administration of the I Sacrament ELDET CHAELES W STATXER addressed the congregation reading from the first chapter of St Pauls epistle to the Ga lations commencing at the eleventh verse The words I have read remind us that religion cannot be of a superficial superfi-cial character Today many false theories have crept into the various religious re-ligious organizations existing throughout through-out Christendom After so many centuries cen-turies have passed away since the days of direct revelation so necessary to teach and keep mankind in the ways of truth it is not surprising that errors have crept in The holy men of record i in the Bible spoke and wrote as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost God has in this our day come to the relief lief of mankind by sending an angel de daring a message and calling the atten tion of this generation to the truths of the gospel as first given to the Saints We are required by revelation from on high inform the people of the world of this fact One great religious error is the teaching that there is no necessity for doing anything so the people only have faith in contradiction to this the Apostle James says Faith without works is dead being alone The different differ-ent degrees of glory call for work for as Christ said In my Fathers house are many mansions etc Theseglories are described in the 15th chapter of 1st Corinthians where are mentioned at least three different heavens or degrees of glory We are also there told who will be entitled to these several glories as a reward for their several labors Those who are worthy to rise in the first resurrection we are there told enter en-ter into the glory of the celestial world The gospel of Jesus Christ teaches these doctrine which binds those who believe in the Bible to accept them or eceive condemnation for rejecting them The light of revelation is the only safe rock upon which we can build By this means only can we receive the words of God direct from His mouth Men will according to their works be rewarded for their labors and inherit that crown or degree of glory which they are thereby there-by entitled to The gospel or Jesus Christ does not restrict or narrow down our opportunities Greater justice could not be meted out unto us than to reward us with that glory that we shall merit Therefore there is opportunity for our ambition to live faithful in all things that we may receive the highest I I glory Read the fast chapter of Mala chi and learn ot the events which await I this earth before Jesus Christ comes to judge mankind and rule over the earth We have great consolation in the knowl edge that He will judge us with a righteous eous judgment and search the hearts of men and will reward them according to their works Peace truth and equity will then prevail darkness cannot endure en-dure for ever Nothing can be plainer than the utterances of the apostles as recorded jn the Bible Those who live and do the works God will receive crowns of glory according to their merits These prospects are great and grand to all who desire to do aright The gospel of Jesus Christ has to be preached to all the world as a witness and then hall the end come The i blessing that have been promised are all conditional upon our continuing in good works The earth will eventually be purified that it may become a fat abode for the righteous I am pleaded I in contemplating these things and that I can bear a truthful testimony that I know the work with which Pam connected I con-nected to be the church and kingdom of God The promises of God are brought I about in a natural manner without any i marvellous or sensational display of what would be considered miraculous I power He works through humble and I obscure men and the spirit and power of the Holy Ghost makes manifest unto the faithful believer His works and purposes pur-poses Religion does not consist of i simple faith 01 belief butis made evident I I I by glorious deeds heroicfconduct and a firm persistence in and reliance upon j 1 the sustaining power of God I ELDER W A BBIMHALL of Spriug i ville then spoke briefly saying that an i experience of over fortythree years hud enabled him to bear a testimony that he had received the gospel of Jesus I Christ Many men today are sceptic s of the power of God He could not blame them for without the inspiration I of the Holy Ghost all men would go t astray The confused ideas and faiths I of the religious world have caused men to become infidel The message of salvation is Fear God and give glory unto Him for the hour of His judgments I judg-ments has COMe Whether men believe I be-lieve it or not the truth is the same that this is the work of Jehovah ELDER WM FoTHEBiNGHAMof Beaver said he had just emerged from the Penitentiary Pen-itentiary this morning after serving a term of three monthsless the allowance I made for good behavior He advised the Saints to be of good cheer for God would bless the Saints for they have the power of God unto salvation although they might be put in prison for keeping the laws of God The world is full of hypocrisy and the Saints must have living faith in God to uphold them throuch the trying times of ro day The Saints must be honest to themselves them-selves virtuous and prayerful that thev may continue to know that God will help them APOSTLE JOHN HEKBV SMITH said he was pleased to hear the instructions that had been given He was pleased to greet Elder Wm Fotheringham whom the world would look upon as a criminal but whom the Saints recog Issued as one w ho had suffered hnnnson ment for righteousness sake We greet iiioj with open arms and hope to have a similar opportunity welcome the release re-lease of our other brethren who are now in prison und when they shall be re leasptl May we so remain faithful as to retain our iiiteftmj to God should we have W lass through similar
