July 181SS5 The Representative District Convention Conven-tion of the Peoples Par y consisting of Salt Lake Davis and Morgan Counties Coun-ties convened at the City Hall Salt Lake City Utah Territory July 18 1885 at 1 pm and was called to order by T V Williams who moved that the following temporary organization be olected V G M Oltinger chairman Thos F Rouche vicechairman G D Pyper secretary G G Bywater chaplain J < Jin W Sharp sergeantatarms V l Carried Mr Webber moved that a committee of five on credentials ba appointed by the chair Carried The Chair appointed as said committee I commit-tee T G Webber W B Hardy H P I Richards Jos Porter S McKay During the committees absence Mr Williams Mij eited that the convention consider the propriety of placing in iotlltYI Commissioners i to locate university lands Mr Carton held that it was not the duty of this convention to interfere in the matter as Commissioners to locate university lands were Territorial officers Mr Carbon moved that a committee of three be appointed to wait on the chairman of the Peoples Territorial committee and lay the matter before them Carried The Chair appointed as said committee com-mittee A W Carlson 0 A lien nent tRoll t Roll called Quorum prespnh Secre tory read call and also Section two of loAn Act Apportioning the Legislative Legisla-tive Representation of the Territory of Utah which provided that Salt Lake Morgan and Davis counties were entitled en-titled to elect six representatives to the LegiIative Assembly The committee appointed to wait upon chairman of the Peoples Territorial Ter-ritorial Committee reported verbally that they had been unable to see the chairman of aid committee but recommended recom-mended that the matter be left for said committee to take the steps necessary in the matter On motion of Mr Webber the report was received and adopted and the committee com-mittee discharged Mr Bywater moved that a committee of nine be appointed by the chair to place called to order by T V Williams who nominated G M Ottinger as temporary tem-porary chairman Carried On motion of J H Anderson George D Pyper was elected temporary chairman chair-man G G Bywater moved that the chairman chair-man apnoint a committee on credentials creden-tials consisting of three members An amendment ott red by L M Grant that the committee consist of five members was put and carried
