Show THE SILVER MENS MEETING The Delegates and Alternates Elected Yesterday V Considering the fact of the importance import-ance of the subject it was indeed surprising sur-prising that so few of the many interested inter-ested in the matter should have met in the law office of Messrs Baskin < fe Van Home yesterday to elect delegates to the coming silver convention In the absence of the President Mr F W Billing was ijallel to the chair On motion of Mr R C Chambers Mr W G Van Home was elected assistant as-sistant secretary Mr Chambers said that in considering consider-ing the few people present he thought the election of delegates should be postponed post-poned until a fuller attendance could be obtained He thought that if the meeting meet-ing were called for 7 or 8 oclock in the evening more of those interested woum uc nose to DO presenI Mr McCornick in answer to Mr Chambers said the call had been published pub-lished for ten days and he did not think there was any possibility of getting any more people together if it were to be published ten days more They could elect the delegates as well now as on any other day in the future Mr James looked at the matter much in the same lIght as did Mr Chambers but he also knew that the time was getting get-ting short and whatever was done must be accomplished at once There were mine owners in Utah V who if the bill sought to be passed was made a law would be injured to the extent ex-tent of half a million dollars yearly and it did not scarcely seem poviible to him thatthey could be so unmindful of their own interests V He lelieved Utah was the only Territory now behind and we certainly had no time to lose in selecting our delegates a id forwarding their names to the National Association On motion of Mr Chambers it was decided that when the election for the two delegates took place two alternates be also selected The delgates chosen wereC C Goodwin and E P Ferry and the alternates were For Goodwin J V Q Packard for Ferry L E Holden r folltftrr After a little discussion as to the amount of money needed for the expenses ex-penses of the delegates the meeting adjourned |
