Show JUDGE POWERS I Expresses His Intention of Adiuiii istenng the Law Equally I Last evening Judge 0W Powers returned re-turned from Sajt LaKe City He was met at the depot by Hon Ransford I Smith and W V Ilelfrich Esq and I escorted to the Broom Hotel An Ogden Zferald reporter called on the Judge this morning and was cordially I cordi-ally received Mr Powers said he had a very pleasant trip on his way to Utah I He is highly pleased with Salt Lake I City and thinks it is a city of which any State in the Union might be proud He is perfectly captivated with our own beautiful little city and says he would prefer to live here rather than in the capital There arc very few cities I said the Judge which are lighted so I extensively as is O dentind altogether I think it is a very desirable place In regard to his new appointment as judge of the First District Court Mr Powers said he felt very keenly the importance im-portance of his position but it is his intention in-tention to administer justice evenhanded even-handed and give every person a fair show and every lawyer practising at the bar shall have a hearing He recognized he had u great task and being comparatively a young man he appreciated still more the honor conferred con-ferred upon him He does not intend to make any radical changes at present I and stated that it was his intention this I afternoon to ask A C Emerson Esq to fill the position of clerk We know of no better selection as Mr Emersons I well known abilities with his extensive experience in this capacity under his father exJudge Emerson make him I I peculiarly adapted to this office After a few further expressions by the Judge as to his intention of administering administer-ing the law fairly and justly and for the welfare and good of the community the reporter thanked Mr Powers for his kindness and retired A short time after Mr Powers was seen driving around the city in company of M H Beardsly Esq taking in the sights Ogden lie aid 19th II I I J |
