Show THREE RUNAWAYS A Young Lady Severely Bruised Vehicles Demolished Three exciting runaways occurred on our streets yesterday and while a young lady was quite severely bruised by one all may be said to have been more serious financially than otherwise About 2 oclock yesterday atternoon Mr James J Gallagher of the firm of Merideth Gallagher Jones accompanied accom-panied by two young ladies Jelt his store on Main Street in a two wheeled ciyt for the Hot Springs Lake Jut before reaching the Valley House on South Temple Street Mr Gallagher whipped his horse when the animal became be-came unmanageable and running into a post on the Valley House corner upset the cart and threw the occupants violently to the ground One of the ladies Miss Ray Hamlin received severe se-vere bruises on the face and hip She was carried into the Valley House where Dr Richards who bed been summoned pronounced her injuries not serious Miss Gallagher the other you 11 I lady and Mr Gallagher were badly I Shaken up both haying struck UPON their heads but ttieir injuries were not nearly so severe as those of Miss Ham linThe The horse with the cart attached turned down West Temple street to THE HERALD corner then east along First South and came to a stand in front of Calders Music Palace The cart was badly broken up and will be almost al-most a total loss to the owner The hero of the second runaway was none other than Dr S H Clawson the well known exoruciator whose horse attached to a cutter while turning the corner from Canyon Road to First East street attempted to ride straddle of one of the shatts The equilibrium of the cutter cut-ter being thus destroyed Mr Clawson sought the center of gravity on the ground but by holding manfully to one rein with the left hand and balancing the conveyance with the other he succeeded in preventing pre-venting a disaster until the horse turning up First street ran down the embankment into the vacant lot near Judge Zanes residence and converted the elegant cutter into a demoralized mass With a remnant of the sleigh the horse took a run as far east as the Twentyfirst Ward schoolhouse where he was stopped and brought home For the benefit of those who may anticipate sitting in Mr Clawsons chair at some future date we will state that the gentleman gen-tleman was entirely unhurt and when seen by our reporter yesterday afternoon after-noon was pursuing his fiendish occupation occupa-tion with a more fiendish fiendishness I than ever The third runaway occurred Shout 5 oclock yesterday evening A team belonging be-longing to Davis Howe Co started from gthe foundry on a rampage up the street When in front of Captain I Hoopers residence the tongue of the wagon struck a telephone pole and was snapped in two and a wHeel was knocked off by a collision with a tree Turning the corner east the team was stopped and returned to its owner |
