The closing day of the spring eetihs of the Utah Driving Park Association was marked by more than the regular Interest i The grand stand was filled with spectators the presence of numerous num-erous ladies lending a brilliant effect to the assemblage and all thespare space on the south of the course was packed by hundreds of vehicles most of which contained spectators who cotamandeda good view of the track from their seats The first race was that upon which the main interest of the day centered the free for all for a 750 purse competed com-peted for by the Utah champion L 0 Lee Velox Romero Bunker and Lady Bonner There was great disappointment disappoint-ment at tbe nonappearance of IcFad den who it was expected would give Lee tbe closest rub no reason was assigned as-signed for his absence so that it can only be ascribed to a wholesome respect re-spect for Lees record of Monday tnT HEAT The pools had been going at lever heat Lee telling favorite at 100 Bunker second choice at f 10 the field 10 In tbe start Romero had thepole and Lee the outside and a fine go followed fol-lowed Lee and Bunker soon demonstrated demon-strated that the race was between them exclusively as both forged ahead and kept evenly together most of tbe way around a magnificent spectacle they presented as they tore down tbe tibiae stretch together but Lee showed his superior mettle and came in a nose ahead amid ringing cheers in 228 Bunker second Velox third Bonner fourth Romero last SECOND HEAT There was an extreme wariness about the pools after this heat Lee selling at 50 10 and 20 against the field at t12 1L and 7 In tho Paris Mutual the dealers could hardly take In the five dollar gold pieces fast enough When the bell rang there had been 308 tickets 4183 issued on the heat 221 of which were on Leo and 112 on the field With Lee winning this meant 7 returned for 5 with the field about 17 for 5 A fair start was mace all five horses going abreast From the first Lee and Bunker forged ahead and the three behind had no interest in-terest for the crowd though Bonner once or twice crept up to close quarters She soon fell behind again however and the pair on bead came handsomely around together Lee leading lead-ing bv a length Bunker second sec-ond Bonner third Velox fourth Romero badly distanced Time 227 THIRD HEAT The pool seller screamed in vain after this heat There were plenty of 4o bids for Lee but if was almost al-most impossible to get anything above 5 or G on flue field and the 40 man declined de-clined to go in at these odds selling therefore had to be temporarily suspeniled Tee four horses had a good Start and Lee and Bunker again took the lead His fine staying qualities and the lack of them in Bunker soon demonstrated themselves and he went steadily lorward widening the gap at every bound and finally coming in on beau even and true as a pulsation in 226 winning the heat race and first money 450 Bunker second 225 Velox third fj5 THE HALF MILE BCXSISGKACE there There was a damp silence broken by a few groans as Son Jon came in third t Policy first in 52k Dutchman second There rwero a few cries of Rule him outCall off etc but MR Webb Toakth6fnon6a of
