of transactions mining shares and other securities having been quite stagnant Bannock has been hawked about considerably brokers offering it at 550 without takers everyone seems inclined to await the coming of the next bar and to note with what frequency they can be turned out in the future Mr WS McCornickDf McCornick Co bankers was asked yesterday how this falls trade compared with previous seasons His reply was that it kept abreast of other years and was possibly somewhat in advance of them Ie Business now in this city he said illS upon what may be called a steady and firm basis There are no failures and the greater par of the merchants are doing a safe and satisfactory satis-factory trade The advance in silver toocontributes to give a better feeling to everybody How is money 1 Money is in good demand and there is plenty of it to be had on the right sort of security at very low rates The oney market may be termed easy Mr McCornick said the wool interests of the Territory were yearly increasing the volume of trade This year had been one particularly prosperous as the producers generally received the benefit of the sharp advance in fee eastern markets Wool money too all remains in the Territory little or none of it goes where the bulk of our mining dividends goto New York or San Francisco The D R G to al earning gros for the seqond week in October were 152692 for the same week in 1SS5 they were 14143G a gain of S per cent most of the other roads in the country show alike incraase Domestic Wheat and Flour Markets The wheat market has been fairly well sustained during the week and there are but few indications of an early appro cl of the long hopedfor advance I ad-vance The receipts of wheat at primary pri-mary markets have fallen away very materially notably at Minneapolis of I course on account of the strike of the I switchmen there Then too the visible I supply was given out to have increased I but lOtlOOO bushels last week when as I currently reported a heavier increase was looked for And furthermore one speculators at the I or twu prominent I wet have bought heavily at times which has gone far to sustain the mar J ket Yet withal wheat op the whole has been dull The statisticsas far as new supplies and stocks are concerned are indeed bullish but the trade appear to demand something more than statistics sta-tistics to effect a start upward On Friday Fri-day wheat was much more active and decidedly stronger The advance on spot was about X to 1c and op lions IK lc There was a much freer export business yesterday largely for Great Britain though part for the continent Cables were more favorable and stimulating and the west was more bullish Speculation was active even excited and there was extensive covering cover-ing by the shorts Bradsheet Ore and Bullion The ore and bullion receipts at the various banks in this city for the weekending week-ending Saturday October 30 183G amounted to 130163 90 against 34 i07 00for the commencing com-mencing to lighfen most mines having shipped their output and the market this week is a little dull in consequence The shutting down of the MacKay and Revolution about ten days ago has made one competitor less bat the prospect pros-pect of a starting up of the old Flagstaff Flag-staff may form one additional bidder Mr Lyons who will run the smelter is connected with the parties who purchased pur-chased the Yosemite No2 in Bingham The Brooklyn output continues to go to the Selby works in California The Apex This longsilent property sent down a car load of good ore one week ago yesterday yes-terday There was not much of it but the three lots went went from 47 to 62 in lead and from 50 to 68 ounces silver Sampson The Sampson is still shipping One fiftyton lot was sold during the week going from 35 to 40 ounces and 20 toper 25 to-per cent in lead Another fiftyton lot but of a better grade is expected down this week The Daly The Daly is not much heard of on the streets butthe output of silver bus continues steadily and that dividend days are not far off is evidenced by the price of the stock which sells at16 and X17 on the streets 20being par value There are 150000shares in the company which makes the capitalization 3000 A = T = > 000 The company is earning money steadily and is fast wiping out the debt incurred for putting the mine in shape and acquiring the Mar sac Mill The Christy The New York Engineering and fining fin-ing Journal says it has been officially informed that the production for September Sep-tember amounted to 2060173 all silver Stormont The last quotation in New York wa lOc Ontario Dividend No 125 of 50 cents a share was paid yesterday by Lounsbury Co New York The Lead Trouble The Journal says The troubles with the lead market are first that nsump tion is much less than it was a year ago The Corrodera at their meeting last week compared notes and we are told estimated that the amount of lead used in their business this year will be from 10000 to 12000 tons less than in 1385 and to a less degree other manufacturers manu-facturers have lessened their consumption consump-tion On the other hand our imports have been quite large and our production produc-tion greater than in 1885 The effect is seen in stocks quite inconveniently large and including the stocks in manufacturers hands sufficient to account ac-count for the preseat condition of the market It is impossible to say how much lower lead may go nor how much manipulation may have to do with its decline but the statistical position of the metal is such that no advance ad-vance can be looked for until there is an improvement ° |
