Show r DRINK I Reflections on the Evils Growinj Out of the Habit r i I To the Editor Tile HEBALD In your issue of the 10th illt 1 noticed an itm taken from the Chicago Tribune under the caption of Drinking Drink-ing During the Business Hour I which should be read by every principal I in business as also by their employee for who has not witnessed in the baneful I bane-ful effects of this nefarious and immoral practice many financial disruption I among otherwise honest and intelligent in-telligent business men in Sal t Lake City and other places they can be counted by the score and dhow d-how many we sec to day who are so blind to their own interest as well ItS that of their families and the publi generally as to make it a practice o cf going out during business flours o r even after and indulging in a gin cocktail I I cock-tail a whisky straight or a glass of beer I Why are men so slow to learn the gad sad lesson and experience of others in the past and avod the evils resulting therefrom Surely it is a want ot a I moments reflection or an unwarrant i able determination to rush headlong I into irretrievable ruin For it is to ay i i the least a ruthless expenditure IIf time and money and in too many ca + es results in the loss of character happy I home devoted wife loving children and the hope of a bright and prosperous future The evils growing out of drink are too numerous to mention here We are all too familiar with them to warrant war-rant a recital now They arc apparent to every candid observer and should furnish evidence to every young man whether he is engaged in business or workinr on a farm that it is best to shun them ever steering clear from a course that would bring him into disrepute and financial ruin The aims and objects of life are too noble and grand to waste Godgiven powers in undue revelry and diss ration The temptations and allurements to I vice are strong and numerous and many young men are too easily led into these ruinous habits by those who pose as their friends not seeing or thinking perhaps that after the first false step is orce taken that it h much easier to take the second consoling themselves that there is no possible harm lu going into resorts of this kind occasionally and taking a sociable drink with tats or that friend But the evil does not rest here It is kept up one alter the other until it becomes an hourly necessity The young should be warned not to tamper with so merciless an enemy that in after life they may not have it to say as many poor victim in his sorrow has been forced to exclaim in the past 1 knew it broke it and am lost But rather bid him know it keep it and be I safe Biz |
