Show t vw l LOse Disinji led Suits The suits that wereVinstituted some months since against Mr D Eccles for an infringement of tbe law relating to cutting timber on the public domain were dismissed last week An evening paper in among the fact seemx to have been laboring under tbe Impression that the lumber interests of the Territory Terri-tory had gained a victory bY the dismissal dis-missal of these cases but such is not the case No one but Mr Ecclts was interested in having the suits which ngrelatetf 123000 dllniissed Mr Lccles succeeded by going to Washington in effecting compromise with the authorities there which atop ped the litigation This compromise However did not alHct his interest aside from thte special cases nor tbe interests of any other lumber deale of Utah Had the cises hson litigated end won under the state of facu that exiUxl when the suits were commenced good would have resulted but such u tLiing would be impossible under the lat at ruliugof Commissioner parks and as the law gives the Secretary Secre-tary of the Interior unbounded power tbe only good that can result to the country must arise from the passage of another law or the reversaloi this rul ingIn In this connection migbtstatctbai Mr Bowen intends introducitic an amendment to the bill H R 7337 repealing re-pealing tbe preemption timber culture and desert land ants now before Congress Con-gress which provides that the owners or operators of saw mills may cut and remove such timber as may besuiable for lumber and may sell the same in any part of the State Territory where it grows This law if passed will flectually settle tbe question in favor of our lumbermen but the prospects at resent seem to be unfavorable for action ac-tion being taken at this session of Congress Con-gress In the meantime Utah will import i im-port lumber worth from 300000 to 100000 per year that would be manufactured manu-factured in the Territory where it not for the outrageous ruling of Sparks Ogden lumber men are waiting to tee what will be done with the proposed amendment hoping for the best while they are prepared for the worst A Human Fiend On Friday eveninglast an indiridua who it seems hails from
