Show Bureau of Labor Report WASHINGTON October 2 The second annual report of the Bureau of Labor now in course of preparation will be a much more comprehensive document than the report laid before Congre ala a-la t winter though the examination uas been mae of the relations of convict con-vict labor to free labor and every penitentiary tentiary iail and workhouse in the United States where the inmates are employed in industrial pursuits have been visited by the agents of the bureau bu-reau These reports will be carefully tabulated and taking these tables is a oasis it is believed that the extent to which the independent laborer or mechanic is affected by prison workers can be shown with sulHcient exactness to serve as guide for luture legislation The report will alto include in-clude statistics touching the labor strikes in this country Inquiries of the bureau on this subject cover a period of time ranging from January 1881 down to July of the present year and it is believed that information has been collected touching every strike of consequence that has occurred in the United states within that period From the data collected deductions of a gen ral character will be made with a view to the establishment of certain rules hat may aid in forecasting the probable result of future strikes and in demon trating on the facts of such concerted movements upon the laboring and employing em-ploying class and industries affected A mlf report will probably be completed about the beginning of the coming year |
