Show The Northern taciiic New York 12Tne Northern Pacific people here say in reference to bills introduced in-troduced in Congress affecting the land grant that the same tactics were resorted to at the last session of Congress and they expect to see them repeated for two years to come The teeing on the part of officers of the road is that Congress cannot possibly be brought to wrong the 800 stockholders who have put 40000 000 into the enterprise on their faith in the governments promise by taking from them the land irrevocably granted but nnt yet technically earned through which they are constructing the road and doing all in their power to finish it by September 11883 ExSecretary Schurz says if he was in error in his decision concerning the land grants the error was supported by the opinion of the attorney general who was consulted before the decision was made by Congress which during two sessions permitted the decision deci-sion to stand and be acted upon by the House committee on Pacific railroads which reported concurrence in it by the department of justice which recently gave an opinion affirming it and by President Arthur who ordered it to be further acted upon I |
