Show F Printers and the Fair A SALT LAx CITY Oct 18th 81 Editors Herald J During the late exhibition at the i fair several comments were made in 1 the hearing of your subscriber at the i i ooc paucity of the display of printing and if a person had gone to the ex r hibition only to obtain an idea of the resources and ability of the pen 4 1 i = pie of Utah he or she would have q gone away with the opinion that the Art Preservative had but very few infatuated devotees in Utah k There are in Salt Lake City six fob I printing offices each capable of turning out good work and in the c ti territory some ten job offices yet only one display of plain and fancy printing was on exhibition Truer some bound works from the Juven ile Instructor office and some bound fr i volumes of the Contributor were also there the latter I believe ex hibited by the editor and not the ± L printer The silver medal offered by the society and the special premium of t 815 offered by the Star Printing 1 Company were worth competing for saying nothing for the honor of or obtaining the award yet the exhi bition of the Star Printing Company r Com-pany was the only one that could be Sfcl looked upon as coming strictly within the reach of the premiums t as published The work of the firm ito i-to whom the prizes were awarded J were pretty in design good in execution exe-cution and elaborate in display and i < worthy all that was awarded it but n t 1 the exhibition and the result would have been more satisfactory if there or k had been a display of work by the r other offices It is generally supposed that printers Ii nil print-ers and publishers are in the van of h t progress = if anyone class of citizens s i r1 r is looked for to be in the front more tr a than another that class is the mans 1jJ t bers of the Art Preservative of aU ll 1t i Arts but this was not the case at II 7 r the late fair though it is hoped will f ° I 1 be in the future f ONE OF TILE COMMITTEE |
