Show High Water Chicago 18The rainfall all over the northwest continues and troubles of high water seem increasing increas-ing At Quincy fears of the breaking break-ing of Suy levee is again imminent the water being as high as last June It is being repaired in weak spots At noon the sun is out here and there is a little better prospect for the cessation of rain elsewhere At Keokuk at 10 this morning the water was only two inches below the great high water mark of last spring The prospects are that Alexandria a town live miles below there will be completely inundated A prominent river man believes the river will rise another foot and that the greatest rise in history is upon us St Louis Despatches from along the tipper Mississippi note high water at various places and a flood seems to be apprehended At Hannibal the river is only about afoot a-foot below the freshet of last spring Railroad tracks on the levee are submerged and the basements in South Hannibal are filled with water Several miles of the Keokuk and St Louis Railroad is underwater under-water and a number of washouts have taken place Some levee which broke last spring and caused the inundation of several thousand acres of farming land and the destruction de-struction of much valuable property is again in danger and if the water rises two feet higher will give way At Davenport Dubuque and other places the water is encroaching upon the levees and river fronts and fears are felt for the safety of property |
