Show ONEIDA COUNTY MUDDLE t f The following > special telegram wa received re-ceived last evening POCATELLO Idaho Nov 24 Governor Bunn has appointed two the votes new commissioners tp count of Oneida tJounty and the count will 2 certamlybe made at Malud on Wednesday n Wednes-day l Thd above requires a few wcJrds of explanation ex-planation Asstared in these columns j last week the board of commissioners three in number are exofficio the canvassing Tassing board These gentlemen it will tc remembered met a few days after the late election canvassed the I precinct returns J and declared the re iult The returns from eight precincts t were thrown out because of the manifest I mani-fest fraud such as ballotbo stuffing 1 j disregard of the registration law etc I The commissioners after declaring the i r result of the election and ordering d J or-dering the clerk to issue certificates i I i in accordance therewith adjourned I f sine die as a board of canvassers It sol fr happened that the Democratic ticket J H had been elected and as the frauds had j all been on the side of the antiMormons j the latter were not onlysurprIsed but 1 bewildered as they were aware of stuffing I stuf-fing the boxes sufficiently to overcome I the honest vote of the city However j they flew to Judge Morgan wh was eager to rush to their rescue as it is understood un-derstood Die Republicans and antiMor mont have power to cause his removal from office He issued a writ of mandamus manda-mus against the commissioners com k ananding them to count the returns from the rejected precincts Officers were dispatched with the writs but it eeems they have been unable to find two of the commissioners and as one could not by any construction of the law canvass I can-vass tlie votes the writs were oft of-t f 9 1 noneffect It now seems however that Governor Bunn has stepped into i in-to the breach and appointed two commissioners t 1 com-missioners to take the place of the absentee We are not familiar with the Idaho statute bearing in this case F but we will venturea guess that Bunn i i has gone outside the law and assumed t authority to which he is not entitled f I and in which he will not be sustained t 4 1 This guess as based upon a knowledge j know-ledge of thebitter jmrtianshjip of his 7 excellency and of his intente hatred t J of the Mormons either of which would lead him into extraordinary assumptions f r assump-tions and to irregular action 4 Further information comes from i t Idaho that those who claim to be on L the inside are offering bets of 100 r f even that Smgiser will be counted in i We can hardly believe that par I ii i tUan and desperate as are l Jff II f Bunn Morgan and those behind t 2 l them they will have the mendacity It i to commit so rank an outrage ffhey t t may attempt to steal the county and t place the insignificant min rity in control 1 con-trol but this infamous outrage must fail when they contemplate the theft oft of-t the delegiteship for Hailey has a large q majority with of without thefr duilmt t L votes from the rejected precincts A f r fraud of the character indicated would t not succeed for Mr Hailey could get his b rights in Congress where he would not f have to deal with such men as Bunn i and Morgan Nor do we believe the attempt f at-tempt by the executive and judiciary oft J of-t the Territory to steal Oneida County and reverse the expressed will of the t f I people can uc ed TJtte n embers 6frthe k legislature have their certificates of I 1 election and will go to that body for their rights and justice Whatever maybe i may-be the result of the count by the bogus 1 iI canvass on Wednesday the officials f elect will not yield before they have exhausted i i4 ex-hausted the J legal remedies whatever f it may be the cost or however protracted i the struggle may be 4 > > J I |
