Show 11 The New York Markets New York Following is the report of the condition of trade for the weekending week-ending today The week has been b broken one on account of the holiday I and business has been much retarded bv the strikes but thy outlook is regarded as favorable for trade and reports received re-ceived as to the crop prospects on the whole steadily grow batter The dry goods trade especially has been restricted Dy the strike of freight handlers which with interruptions has caused the business busi-ness of the week to be unusually small Much more would have been done had I the railroads been properly equipped to handle the freight offered As it is a large amount of trade Las been temporally tem-porally driven from the marker The feature in the grain market was the heavy break in June wheat a decline of 15c to 16c a bushel for that month in one day Later months suffered but little depression depres-sion Tne market has been quite steady with something of an advance at the close Corn has been active and strong and ha advanced some 4c or 5c a bushel for cash and near by months and closes a fraction off from the highest prices Oats have been quite irregular but the fluctuation fluctu-ation has not been wide and tbe market closes somewhat weak at an advance of 2c over a week ago The lard and pork market has been active and strong pries have been steadily advancing and the market closes strong with indication of a farther rise in cotton This has been broken from the 1st to the 6th The market has been active in view of apparent ap-parent depreciation in visible stocks Prices advanced some twentyfive points and closed fairly firm In petroleum there has been a considerable amount of business done and prices were well sustained sus-tained until the recent flow of oil toacon i siaeraoie amount irom new wells served to depress the market and prices have declined to a fraction over 50c Freights i have been moderately active with more inquiry for grain room and petroleum freights fare in good request and the market closes fairly firm Raw sugar is somewhat quiet and prices firm refining 7 I cents Sales have been limited lim-ited to the wants of refiners In coffees there is nothing special to note Prices are maintained but the future seems as uncertain as ever Experienced operators operat-ors anticipate lower prices There is moderate distributing trade No change to note in teas and prices are fairly maintained main-tained but the trade is largely at the mercy ofimportations made by outsiders who force their goods on the market r and keep prices down The market for American pig is still influenced by the holiday period and very little business is transpiring but such sales as are reported re-ported are at full figures The feeling in the market is strong JNo transactions of any moment are reported in Scotch pig iron or rail The boot and Ehoe trade has been very fair for a week EO broken into as this has been Retailers are very busy and constantly in the market replenishing re-plenishing which made up most of the trade of the week Manufacturers are supplied with orders and duplicate to last them till the fall trade fairly commences com-mences Auction sales of boots and shoes have been good and an average amount of goods have been disposed of The leather market is quiet There is nothing new to note Prices are unchanged un-changed The arrivals of cheese in the past week have been very large 75000 boxes having come in two week and the market has dropped from J to K a cent and a further decline is anticipated Butter has held its own for the past week and there has been no change in prices arrivals about equalling the demand de-mand In lumber the prices hold steady in a comparatively inactive market There seems to be no disposition to purchase pur-chase much beyond the current works owing to the prevailing opinion tbat concessions con-cessions may yet be made before fall purchases I |
